Aaarrgh, one thing I really hate is "data" being used as singular. Datum, data, the end.

The coronation oaths have changed a lot since the middle ages.

And actually old, unlike most of the rest of it.

That's right. The patina is eye-wateringly wonderful. I have a little commemorative brooch from the last coronation. It's of the anointing spoon. That's 12th century.

Travisina isn't here either, so I'll give her apologies. Not sure what she's up to but it will involve running errands for other people. She does a lot of that.

Just a bit. There was that important 17th century interlude from which point English moved from Middle to Early Modern.

Interesting that the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland says 'sir' and not 'sire'. Slightly cutting him down to size.

The substance has changed a lot too, though. Swearing to obey the laws (made by parliaments) was a very contentious thing in the fourteenth century, and kings agreed to do it with great reluctance.

Exactly. Whatever anyone might think of it, the subsequent, 17th century parliamentarians had their effect.

It's difficult to write laws that cover every possibility. Hence the parliamentarians applying a retro-fit.

Exactly. He's completely reprehensible, but his subsequent actions make a lot of sense. A military man brought down by the thing he lived and ate and breathed. Nasty.

He brought it on himself. And Servalan made sure he did.

We're in that process here, too. It's why I'm watching the coronation on Britbox instead of on the ABC where there are people moaning on about how the Crown represents invasion and stolen land etc, etc. I just want to say, today it's not all about you.

Well, fellow travellers, time to retire to the other watching? An interesting juxtaposition of watches there. And now we know a bit of a spanner has been thrown in the works. Servalan is a real force to worry about, Travis is the proverbial loose-cannon (not to mention, 'loose-canon'Wink, and heck, Blake, what did you have to make that useless attack for?

My father always used to say Romans go home. It was one of our archaeology jokes. As for that particular Monty Python quote, yes, it is the title of one PhD thesis that I know of.

And as for Crowns of Thorns just being mentioned, Ziziphus spina-christi is bloomin' nasty, especially when you're field-collecting.

Comes down to MsVirn's comment: then you'd have to make ALL his attacks not-useless. And there would go the plot.
