In the Abbey I'm annoyed that no-one wears a long dress anymore. No sense of occasion.
Meanwhile, Servalan knows to be wearing her best military whites for a court-martial.

A few dress tips from Servalan would make all the difference.

Servalan's outfit for today would be perfect. And she's not wearing a hat. Hats were not done last time.

Princess Charlotte looks like a Servalan in waiting, though.

Must look for her. Ladies-in-waiting without tiaras. What's the world coming to?!

Servalan would look good in a tiara. Unfortunately, it might be difficult to secure one on such short hair.

Don't normally go for modern church music, but this Kyrie is powerful.

You've an awful lot of this service to get through before we get to the communion, love.

Meaning Charles, not you, of course!

It is possible. The Iranian collection of Crown Jewels is fantabulous. Seen it 3 times. One wonderful thing in it is to be able to see the workings of tiaras. They are anything like the sort of thing you get in costume shops or wedding shops. They have quite complicated frames inside for attaching to hair and heads.

The coronation oaths have changed a lot since the middle ages.

That's right. The patina is eye-wateringly wonderful. I have a little commemorative brooch from the last coronation. It's of the anointing spoon. That's 12th century.

Travisina isn't here either, so I'll give her apologies. Not sure what she's up to but it will involve running errands for other people. She does a lot of that.

Just a bit. There was that important 17th century interlude from which point English moved from Middle to Early Modern.

Interesting that the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland says 'sir' and not 'sire'. Slightly cutting him down to size.

The substance has changed a lot too, though. Swearing to obey the laws (made by parliaments) was a very contentious thing in the fourteenth century, and kings agreed to do it with great reluctance.

Exactly. Whatever anyone might think of it, the subsequent, 17th century parliamentarians had their effect.

It's difficult to write laws that cover every possibility. Hence the parliamentarians applying a retro-fit.

Exactly. He's completely reprehensible, but his subsequent actions make a lot of sense. A military man brought down by the thing he lived and ate and breathed. Nasty.

He brought it on himself. And Servalan made sure he did.
