Morning, Anne. This is our last 10.30 start (approx) for a while. Not looking forward to having to get up an hour earlier for next week's rewatch. And my husband gets a 25 hour birthday tomorrow, and will no doubt claim he needs extra cake etc

Seems fair, the cake bit that is.

I don't remember much about this episode other than the asteroid but I really like how "sci fi" it is so far. No quarries, no weird barbarian civilisations. Just spaceships and metal and spacesuits. I always liked that side of B7

ER...cue the quarry!

Hello everyone

Hi dodgyville. Good week?

No, not really. I'm moving house tomorrow and not enjoying it at all! Ah well, almost done. How is everyone?

That is one of the worst, most stressful things to do. Are you moving far?

It is stressful. I recently moved between cities and have been bouncing around a bit house sitting, etc. Finally moving into a slightly more permanent place. Quite over it frankly! But I am lucky it's all been by choice etc.

Yeah but let’s face it it’s also self-defence, considering how the others treat him.

The repair sequence isn't very well done - that would be a good candidate for new effects, perhaps. And why is Tarrant there, when he isn't really doing anything except standing there? Providing moral support?

At least Tarrant isn't causing probelems. He's better when he doesn't try to help.

Yes - then you can really see how much he doesn't look like Richard from The Champions.

None of them are particularly good at 'social skills', are they? And Vila has the cheek to criticize Space Rats for zapping things - isn't that what the rebels do?

Dodgyville, I’ve been meaning to ask you, would you be interested in coming to Canberra for a weekend (maybe late February next year) for Tyce-con??

Good mornign/evening, ladies!

No, I'm not taking part in the rewatch; I was just passing by when I stumbled on the following comment:

Uhhh... is it made of teeth?

Have fun with the rewatch!

Glad you've found somewhere more permanent, dodgyville. Hope everything goes to plan tomorrow. Enjoy the new place! Will you have a B7 room, like Obsidian?

14m: SPACE RATS

OMG THIS IS THE SPACE RATS EPISODE. This is a big episode for me. I think aesthetically I rate it as one of the most important episodes. When I think of mid 1980s science-fiction I do think punk and urban decay is a big influence (Mad Max, Robocop, a lot of books I read).

Personally, I think the space rats look AMAZING here but I know I'm probably in a minority. But to get this aesthetic in 1981? It's so forward looking. Chef's kiss emoji

Quad bikes must have been very 'modern' when this was first aired. Now they just seem naff.

Haha! Funny you should mention that Hugbot. I've considered that and even sussed out sources of teeth taken from dentists offices. I was thinking something like this:

They're actually very dangerous. The number of farmers everywhere who end up squashed under them when they roll over. Not nice.

20m: On a barren planet Vila and Dayna spot an old camera.

VILLA: That's one of the most ancient closed circuit television cameras I've ever seen.

[The camera is exactly the same as a prop that would be used as Federation's most advanced camera if the script required]

I rather like the hair and make-up - the hair also has the virtue of making it impossible for them to wear a space helmet, thus boosting their macho, live fast and die credentials.

Tycecon 1 was brilliant. Someone managed to lock herself out of the venue during her live broadcast. Excellent.

I was going to say that you don't see female Space Rats, but there were a couple in that first scene. They look very like the men - a pity, I had hoped for something a bit more adventurous.

Indeed. The danger factor. Saw an 'I Shouldn't be Alive' ep where some beaver hunter in the US ended up stuck under his for days, with all the big bas beasties around. The Medical Emergency program here has shown a few farmers under them as well.

28m Avon and the non-Avons are strolling around a quarry for some reason.

Avon does a dramatic leap and forward roll. Tarrant leans into Soolin's ear and whispers "don't worry, this is the last series"

Oh ooops sorry, a few years ago Obsidian, Joe Dredd and I did our own mini Blake’s 7 convention (just the three of us). We watched our way through series one and Obsidian and Joe Dredd got extremely creative with Blake seven memorabilia, T-shirts, mugs teleport brace, etc. We also had the honour of Stephen Greif (and Horizon members) zooming in. We thought we’d like to do it again.

Yes, we get similar stories here - usually farmers, or celebs with country estates who buy them for fun.

Don't want to get squashed? Don't try to make the qb drive up (or down) near-vertical slopes, while it's also carrying several bags of sheep feed a couple of dogs and a sick sheep
