A category 9 crime? One wonders what the other 8 were - including the cat 4 'going outside' one. Suggestions?? Maybe there were more than 9? Probably. Including 'looking at Servalan in a funny way' - instant execution (unless you have enough money/ information on Blake). "You're not sulking, I hope?"

I like the introduction of Vila - you don't know whether to trust him or not. And doesn't he look young, compared to the Vila we saw last week? Both Vila and Jenna seem equally untrustworthy – the way Jenna strokes Blake's hair etc. Yes, Vila is very young here. The way the characters all get ground down is one of the brilliant things about this show. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

He doesn't really become the class clown until later on. There is no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

Incredibly naive of Varon and his wife to talk so freely in front of that official. |

What on earth is Tarrant playing at turning up like that? It looks as though it is deliberate, to rub it in to Blake's mind. In the new Big Finish novelisation, the writer Paul Cornell goes deep into everyone's motivations and backgrounds... Why do I always have more things to spend my money on than actual money? |

Vila is also, evidently, quite a gossip-gatherer. He knows all about Jenna and, as we see, all about Avon, or at least, the gossip about them.

Incredibly naive of Varon and his wife to talk so freely in front of that official. Necessary for the plot, but it does make them out to be a bit stupid. Or because of the Federation 'class system', and they are obviously upper grades, they disregard the security person as the upper classes would ignore and speak freely in front of their servants. There is no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

He doesn't really become the class clown until later on. Yes, he's much more believable like this. Until he realises that among a group of paranoids clowning (seeming harmless rather than worryingly clever) gives him an advantage, especially when people like Tarrant turn up. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Vila is also, evidently, quite a gossip-gatherer. He knows all about Jenna and, as we see, all about Avon, or at least, the gossip about them. Very slick and sly. It would be a survival thing for him - knowledge is power, when you're physically weak. There is no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

They really do think the prisoners are thick, don't they? 'Single file...one behind the other...' (sniggering).

I'd love to know who the thief is with the lockpick Varon goes to borrow. A former client that Varon got off the hook?

Lazy writing, I think. Easier to concentrate on the 'action' and only use Vila (or the girls) as and when the gunslingers run out of ideas. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Perhaps another thing he exaggerated? In Games, I think, he shoots someone very effectively - but out of sight of the others. Perhaps the stress of life on the run pushes him into going OTT on the 'harmless' side of his personality? Edited by AnneArthur on 31-12-2022 10:25 |

The London take-off is a marvelous model sequence. Hurrah for CGI not having been invented yet!

We all have things we allow others to take on if they're more adept or inclined, or just plain it's a dirty job but someone's got to do it. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

That is very true - I had forgotten that. In fact the whole Arlen manoevre was classy - it wasn't his fault that he hadn't calculated on a whole bunch of Federation troopers! |

'He's good at shooting people, and when he's successfully taken down a couple of Federation guards he will feel good about himself, and be less likely to go for me, so why not let him get on with it?' But I think also laziness on Vila's part, which does let him slide into letting the others do that particular piece of dirty work for him, and makes him too dependent. |

By the end of that ep, Blake is THE BOSS. He'd certainly like to think so. I think it's a bit two-way - the rest of them are glad to let him - because they expect the Feds will beat him up sooner rather than later,, and rather him than them. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

That's right - it starts "There's a distant star, in a distant sky" - it's the sort of thing you'd get as a theme on a Gerry Anderson, but not as good as Fireball XL5 or Aqua Marina!
