32m: Avon and Orac plot how to get at Belkov through his previous computer.

Avon: "Belkov does not trust anyone except that machine. It is his bodyguard, his companion, his playmate... "

Just say it, Avon, "and his SECRET LOVER"

Then deliberately not draw any parallel between the Belkov/Gambit relationship and yours with ORAC.

haha wow I didn't notice that.

ORAC did - it is quite outraged when he says 'his friend'.

Oh some SUPER slow walking down this "corridor". They manage to fit a whole conversation with literally about 50cm of space to move. That is some good acting.

38m: Vila "seduces" Gambit the computer to help him.

A pretty fun development really. It's like Vila has learned to talk to computers from Avon but still has his bar legs in a way nerds like Belkov and Avon never have.

He's developed a good joking and avoidance relationship with Orac. Probably another reason why he feels so let down later on, in Orbit.

42m: The gang have to play a series of deadly games to progress. Luckily each game appears to play exactly to the skills of each of the gang (quick draw, piloting, lock picking).

I think this episode is lucky that home video games (still relatively new in 1981) have become part of our culture. It kind of gives the episode a good flavour to the modern watcher

Belkov has been almost like an evil crossword puzzle compiler.

47m: All seems lost but twist! Vila stole some crystals so it's not a complete write off. But then TWIST! the crystals are fake.

What a fun ending

The disco set for the room in the Orbiter is very like what went on to be the backgrounds in video games. Early video games weren't that spicy, even by the mid-80s, but they became so very rapidly thereafter.

A terrific ending. In classic B7 style, everyone loses.

Is this the episode where we learn that Scorpio has weapons?

Ah. Just received an email from MsVirn. She sends her apologies. She managed to double-book herself. She'll be kicking herself also.

Reminds me of the episode where the planet blows itself up and Avon says something like "Servalan won" and Cally says "No the people won (by living up to their ideals" and Vila responds "If that's winning, I'll take losing every time"

That's what I was wonderingz. The storm is likely to have been bad in Cumberland, so perhaps her power is out, or she is digging herself out of the snow?

The only weapons I'm aware of, except of the hand weapon type, are the skills of our heroes and the amazing ORAC.

But they escape by blasting the feldon panels on the orbiter.

She doesn't say. As the email was sent from her phone, I'm assuming it was a social outing, even if just up the road to buy some bread and milk.Smile

Excellent! There's a lot of very good quipping and the double-double crosses are nicely plotted. Excellent guest actors. Servie is sharp. An example of what made B7 great.

That seems conclusive. She would say if the power was out.

Yes. I was thinking just the other week that Scorpio was not armed - and yet I must have seen this episode a dozen times, have accepted that they blasted the crystals with their weapons, and then have promptly forgotten about them.

I think that this is a first-rate episode. Good story, good guest stars, none of the regulars behaving out of character, lots of wit, everyone loses at the end. Top 10, definitely.

It's funny because we always associate Liberator with having weapons, they were so much of a feature, and then Vila's and Dayna's role applying them. With Scorpio, we don't see that relationship. Odd.
