He is. It’s the captain going down with the ship thing.

Sweaty Avon. The times when whoever is sweaty I find very convincing and make me love the program more.

The Scorpio crash sequence is very good. As is the stillness afterwards.

Yep it’s all Orac’s fault

Lovely David Collings. Must find the version of A Christmas Carol with him as Bob Cratchett and watch it tomorrow. He’s so lovely. I think TPTV has it.

I’ve started on 9:00. I love this bit of Scorpio taking off - brilliant start to the final ep.

I love this beginning too - and very final, blowing up the base.

The new, tougher-but-jaded Blake is excellent as well.

He is very good. I would have liked to have seen more of him. And I remember watching the first time and really not being sure whether he was a real bounty hunter or not.

I’m actually more than happy with the original version of Blake’s character.

I like how he changes though. I would say that he, Avon and Vila are all suffering from Complex PTSD , where they’ve all experienced so many set-backs and disappointments that they’re a mess. Each personality responds differently. The lack of trust thing is a recognised aspect of the condition and they all have it in different ways.

Sounds very plausible.

Yes and noble so that ‘Avon’ can survive- and since Avon isn’t exactly Tarrant’s best friend that is really something.

However old I was when it was released I thought he was the best. He has the right level of sensitivity. I think I was 12-13.

Initially it feels like Avon being uncharacteristically naive - but from what he says in the hut, it would seem that his idea is to lure in a flyer with a distress beacon, try to trick or overpower the pilot, and seize it. He seems to be using the hut as a decoy.

That seems the obvious conclusion so it is a Macguffin in that it moves the plot along and raises doubts about Avon’s intentions. It gets him a different gun.

Yup.

Avon refusing to answer the question 'Where is Tarrant' seems very PTSD to me - trying to erase Tarrant's fate by refusing to talk about it.

Exactly. They are all very badly damaged despite what Blake says.

Now if Blake had listened to Klyn, they might have noticed the Federation troops arriving. So many little things, all adding up.

Is anyone else feeling supremely privileged to be watching these people? They are so very good , lifting the program way above the ordinary space opera.

Yes. I never understand why they trust Arlen when she has proved herself a traitor by trying to dob Blake into Klyn.

No, that makes no sense. I wish we had seen the actual conversation between her and Deva.

Me neither. Maybe they think her too young to have developed the vindictiveness. But she seems like a young Servalan may have been at 16.

That ending still packs a punch, no matter how many times I watch it. Thank you all for the rewatch. Have a great Christmas and New Year, and see you in the first week of January, when it's back to the beginning again.

Maybe they think it proves she's a law-abiding person? But it's such a stupid idea.

You have a lovely Christmas and New too, Anne. At this end the turkey is brining so we’re kind of under control for tomorrow. Any last minute shopping required at your end? Quiet time tomorrow for you Tyce?

I’m going to have nightmares all night now. I hope I don’t wake up screaming though because I might frighten Santa.

Unfortunately no. The nagging and complaining from mum will create some noise :-(

Don’t do that Tyce. It makes me sad , that’s for sure. Maybe a little sob into the pillow.
As a positive, I can tell you that Steven Pacey’s smile is still as fab as it was - dazzling.

Shouldn’t laugh but I will. Here, it’s the din. Two very loud brothers. Will send photos of paintings the minute I get a chance. Would you like some ear plugs for Xmas too?
