Rewatch Downunder - Blake, Saturday 24th December 2022
M1795537OCVirn
By request, starting half an hour later - which I think means 9pm for the Southern Hemisphere, (10am in the UK).
It's the end of all things B7 (until the New Year) in which nobody knows what's really going on until it's too late to do anything about it.

Rather like discovering there's someone important to whom you forgot to send a Christmas card. But a lot more brutal.

I'll give my apologies now, because on Christmas Eve I will be joining a family gathering instead. Merry Christmas, rebels.
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

OK, turned up at 9.30 - so I'm early for once!

Hi Anne Arthur. I hope you are well.

Hi Tyce and Anne Arthur. How goes it?
I made it! Hooray! But am typing on an iPad mini and watching B7 on Britbox. Let’s see how we manage. Family is eating pizza in another room.
Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Hello all, back again! I hope you are all well. After a couple of very stressful weeks, I finally got all my legal cases from the peasants' revolt translated in time for Christmas - and the good news is that there is more work in the new year! Now for a bit of peace and quiet.

Obsidian
I’ve started on 9:00. I love this bit of Scorpio taking off - brilliant start to the final ep.

Hi Obsidian, All good here. Mother is busy doing her usual Christmas thing of watching and complaining about the carols.

I don’t like them blowing up the base - too ominous.

She’s usually in bed at 9 but has got caught up in the carols.

The new, tougher-but-jaded Blake is excellent as well.

She should try Blake's 7 - no carols.

He is very good. I would have liked to have seen more of him. And I remember watching the first time and really not being sure whether he was a real bounty hunter or not.

Yes good point. I guess I overlook the actor’s skills because I hate her evil character so much.

I think so. The amount of flak she got was ridiculous.

I’m actually more than happy with the original version of Blake’s character.

ORAC over-riding Slave is where it all starts going wrong. If they had had more warning of the attack things might have gone better.

Yes, taking in Tyce’s comment as well, it was crazy. Sasha Mitchell is so good. So ridiculous that there was an ep of this quality and the whole thing gets ditched, but Chris Boucher did do an amazing thing. I think he was brilliant.

No, I didn't mean in the first two series - I like him fine there - I meant in this episode. But that would have given the game away, I suppose.

I like how he changes though. I would say that he, Avon and Vila are all suffering from Complex PTSD , where they’ve all experienced so many set-backs and disappointments that they’re a mess. Each personality responds differently. The lack of trust thing is a recognised aspect of the condition and they all have it in different ways.

Sweaty Avon. The times when whoever is sweaty I find very convincing and make me love the program more.

The Scorpio crash sequence is very good. As is the stillness afterwards.

Yep it’s all Orac’s fault

Lovely David Collings. Must find the version of A Christmas Carol with him as Bob Cratchett and watch it tomorrow. He’s so lovely. I think TPTV has it.

Yes and noble so that ‘Avon’ can survive- and since Avon isn’t exactly Tarrant’s best friend that is really something.
