Rewatch Downunder Saturday 28th September C13 Terminal

I think I am unusual in being less moved by the destruction of the Liberator here than that of Scorpio in season 4. Don't know why - perhaps the Liberator always seemed a bit too good to be true?

If they knew (from what Zen said) that the ship was doomed, why didn't they all just teleport down before it happened, take over Servalan's base, etc etc.

Quite noble really, just quietly, when no-one is watching. The complete Byronic hero.

More likely that he can’t deal with the fact that Servalan won and he lost, so he effectively tries to commit suicide.

That photo would be 200% awesome if it wasn’t for the dying Liberator behind her.

He already knew he might have to sacrifice himself, that's why he didn't want the others to go down to the planet. He knew it might be trap.

Perhaps to deter Avon from trying to kiss her again?

Ha ha ha. Yes.

I keep wanting to replicate that brooch, but can't see it closely enough to get a fix on the different layers and icicle bits.

Cool. A replica would be awesome. Maybe someone has some photos somewhere.

Technically this episode is one of the major developments of the overall show -- the destruction of the Liberator and the "return of Blake" but upon rewatch I'm impressed at how logical is the episode's internal story. The Liberator scenes make sense and Servalan's scheme is proportionate and logical and with the right touch of venom.

Even without the lore elements it would probably be an above average episode.

I think the final take-off from Xenon is immensely moving, less so the actual crash, though the final moments on-board of each of the characters is moving too.

This image does make me think we were robbed of an episode where Servalan gets control of the Liberator and Zen turns bad and they destroy a few planets and rival councilors... what if what if...

I've pored over photos but can't get close enough. Even followed as closely on-screen as possible. Maybe the Blu-rays will help? Don't know. I only know that without seeing it more closely, I can't get enough of the detail that makes it special. It's black and silver, with sparkles and icicles but beyond that...

It's dense, as in it has a lot going on in it, and that gives it a clear edge. Plus, Terry Nation pulled his finger out big-time and followed his own credo of writing the first and last eps of the series.WELL.

Well, that was Terminal. What do people think of the episode overall? Do you rank it highly, lowly or in the middle? Was it a positive development in the direction of the show?

I won't be around next week, as I'll be on Lindisfarne with some friends. But see you the week after - and nice rewatching this episode with you!

It's a good one. It's not in my top 5, but I definitely rate it, not just because of how critical it is in driving what comes next.

Definitely a very dramatic end to the series, and takes the story in a number of interesting directions. Also brings back Blake, who, I feel, has been rather haunting the crew memebers who remember him. So yes, a high-ranking episode.

The Blake cameo is strange. Strange in that analog era way. I guess they only had the actor for one day, maybe even just a few hours. Ego or money or time or scheduling or BBC rules or union rules.

It's hard to imagine what else they could have done dramatically, although it does feel like a big cop out to make him a clone/hallucination/hologram

OK then. I miss the old days, with zoom B7 meetings. Travisina on the flight deck, the Supreme Commander struggling with her software, gingerbread Blakes, people collapsing live on trains etc etc.
Very memorable.

A few years ago I went by boat from Seahouses, as the tide was wrong for the causeway. How St Cuthbert and his monks would have arrived (probably). Not necessarily from Seahouses, of course.

Terminal has to rate highly for all sorts of reasons. Not that it's perfect, but it's thought-provoking and foreshadows a lot of what comes next.
Lookong forward to next Saturday already, I'm off to write a ficlet about how someone ended up with a name like Uzalguier.
Hope you all have a great week.

I think it speaks to the quality of the show that a "red wedding" episode probably doesn't crack the top 5!
