We should play 'Blow the Wind Southerly' at Tycecon 2!

Excellent idea!

It is a good idea but perhaps speed it up a tad.

Modernist!

Not even Post-Modernist?????
Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Seriously, though, you do wonder how much of the stuff preserved in museums was the 'Blow the Wind Southerly' of its day. If you brought the original owners there they would be saying 'but why would anyone want to preserve that?'

Tyce

I’m now wishing Blake had smash YouTube as well. LOL

Anyway, got to scoot - great to see you all, and see you next week I hope.

Conversely, I love old ephemera. Things like old travel posters and train tickets in the Transport Museum. Things that at the time, people never gave a second glance at, but now evoke times gone by in a way that statues and monuments never do for me. The stuff of everyday life.

Going back to Cairo...

The one room I used to take people to in the Egyptian Museum was one with things in it like combs and little doodles on limestone. People like all the gold and stuff but they also like to see themselves reflected in people from the past. Despite all the weird ways they think others may have behaved, they get to see that people have been the same forever.

Anyway, I rather liked Tarvin. Shame he had to be wiped out.

Agreed. We need more Amagons! Any chance Big Finish are going to explore them, Boss?

Well, we did get the Amagon Queen story on the Heroes & Villains set.

Exactly! And more or less what I said in another post.
I expect you know about the Cairo Genizah?
When Jewish prayer books/scrolls etc wear out - anything with the name of God written in them in Hebrew - you're not allowed to destroy or throw them away so they're stored in a large box - the Genizah - and eventually buried.
The Cairo Genizah is an amazing collection of such dating back to the 6th century but also includes ledgers and account books and everyday letters. One of the most charming is a letter to a teacher from a chap whose son is just starting school, asking the teacher to be kind to his little boy and not beat him if he's slow to learn!

Great to see you, Anne. I'm double-booked next week, so depending on whether I choose to attend a Bat-Mitzvah at synagogue or the opening of a new Sci Fi shop in St Albans with Nicola Bryant signing, either way I won't be here.

Hi Joe! Nice to see you. I owe you an email or several, haven't forgotten - but life's been a bit... you know...

OK then, this has been fun, as usual. Great stuff, everyone. Hope you have a good week and return ready to marvel at Servalan again.

Hi MC, Hi Travisina.

Today has been a day full of dead Keillers.

No worries about the emails, T. I was worried for you when I heard you'd gone back to Israel. I hope all is okay? (If you can say in the open.)

Re the room with combs in Cairo, I hope it has some pans as well.

Was the Quex fellow really called Powell Powell or was that a typo?

Yeah, all's more or less okay (out in the open). While I was in Israel we had earthquakes, Storm Barbara, one terrorist attack and a massive anti-government demonstration. Apart from that, all was fine!

Quex fellow isn't a typo - he added the second 'Powell' for family reasons John Powell

Right, I'm off. It's been lovely to 'see' everyone. I'm not around next week, so thanks again MVirn for leading these rewatches!
