UK Rewatch - A7 Mission To Destiny (Tuesday, February 10th)
trevor travis
The episode: Albert Seven – Mission To Destiny (Carry On Space Poirot)
The date: Tuesday, February 10th, 2026
The time: 7.45pm UK time

In which Avon and Cally find out whodunit, and Stuart Fell lives up to his name (PS if anyone wants to find out how the murderer got Stuart Fell onto the top of the cupboard, I’ll explain later). Meanwhile, Blake goes on a trip that takes four days one way and five minutes to return. But I’ll explain now! Jenna is the same as Holly and doesn’t know how to navigate the ship and is going around in big circles (obligatory Red Dwarf reference).

Episode in a word: 54124.
Character to cheer: Space Poirot, of course. Although he’s the one who misreads it in the first place as 5-4-1-2-4 when it blatantly says S-A-R-A. And he also reveals the murderer with his back turned to her, so that she can pull a gun. So, Space Poirot, 9/10 for style, but 1/10 for execution.
Character to boo: Blake - for being judge, jury and executioner in the final scene.
Is Soolin looking lovely this week?: Yes.
Recognisable Face: Brian Hopwood (Rafford) was nice Mr Hopwood in Grange Hill. He also played a nasty murderer in Coronation Street. He only lasts one scene in this episode, before writing S-A-R-A using his own blood as he dies. Who would do that? Someone who badly needed a pen (additional Red Dwarf reference).
Best exchange: It’s gotta be: CALLY: “My people have a saying, a man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.” AVON: “Life expectancy must be fairly short among your people.”

Blake's 7 will return in... Carry On Throwing Nuts

I realise that there is always great confusion about which episode we are going to watch, when it comes to Mission To Destiny, because there are several other episodes with very similar names. To clarify, we are not watching any of the following B7 episodes:

Mission To Dentistry:
Blake develops really bad toothache and is in an even worse mood than usual. But a trip to the dentist can cause problems… especially when the dentist is a big fan of Travis.

Mission To Dysentery:
Fending off ten Federation Pursuit ships simultaneously is never easy. But it’s even more difficult when the crew have diarrhoea, thanks to Cally undercooking her Auron Veggie Chilli Burgers.

Missionary Position on Destiny:
A Season C story. The Ultra recapture Dayna and Tarrant, and want yet more information on the human bonding ceremony (this story is banned in many countries due to its explicit content).

Mission To Dynasty:
Servalan and Alexis Colby both have problems with blokes called Blake… so they decide to pool their resources and also their shoulder pads.

Mission To Destiny Of The Daleks:
A Blake’s 7 / Doctor Who crossover episode, starring Gareth Thomas as Blake, Paul Darrow as Avon, Tom Baker as the Doctor, David Gooderson as Davros and Tom Chadbon as the naked, bound prisoner (steady Paula!).

We are NOT watching any of the above five episodes, which all have to wait for another time. However, we are watching:

Mission To Destiny:
Avon and Cally solve a murder mystery on the Ortega, Blake goes off on a wild goose chase and then takes 5 minutes to do a journey which took 100 hours going the other way, and Travis does… well, nothing because he’s not in this episode.

It’s 19:45 Earth Standard Time, and here is the news from Earth Dome 1. I am your in-studio reporter, Lee R. Pantsonfire. Our top story tonight, Drama on Destiny. Here with the story, our Destiny correspondent, Frederick Ven Diagram. Take it away, Frederick.

FVD: Actually, Lee, it’s Froederick. A thick fungal slime had been killing all vegetation on Destiny, but a strange alien craft arrived, carrying the survivors of the cargo ship Ortega, and a miracle Neutrotrope the locals have high hopes will neutralize the fungus.

As you know, Lee, the Federation had benevolently offered to step in, IF Destiny agreed to join the Federation, but the stubborn locals refused. It looked for a time like The Federation might be their only hope of salvation, but now it appears Destiny will be able to remain independent.

LRP: Independent, and alone, Frederick.

FVD: It’s Froederick, but yes, Lee. In other local news, a large triangular hole has been spotted in a local asteroid field, apparently caused by a large, triangular ship, which apparently flew through the asteroid field one way, but went around on the return journey.

LRP: Why didn’t they just fly back though the same hole they made on the way in?

FVD: Not everyone has a Federation Education, like us, Lee. Say, now that things have settled down, do you think I could be reassigned. I’ve been the Destiny correspondent for seventeen years and this is the first time you’ve ever let me on the news show. Do you think…

LRP: I’m sorry, Frederick...

FVD: Froederick;

LRP: … but our producer tells me we’ll need you there for a while, yet.

FVD: ♫Destiny, Destiny, No Escaping That For Me…. ♫

LRP: Frederick, your microphone is still live….

FVD: IT’S FROEDERICK!

VO: And now for our 20:00 movie, Old Frankenstein.

I blame Terry Nation for this one. It could have been a good episode except for sloppy writing. Not a good murder mystery and the science isn't too strong either!
All I can say is hollyhocks.
I look behind me, what do I see? A pair of golden wings seem to be attached to me.

Grin Grin

It is a bit - it feels almost like an episode of a different show at times.

But it's still B7 and that always means there are redeeming factors. Plus it's the first episode to really shows Avon in a different light, even if he's not the brightest at times during this!

I liked this episode more when I was young and innocent....but these days it does not stand up to close scrutiny. Best to unzip the top of the head and put the brain in a handy glass bowl, then sit back and enjoy!

It does rather rely on everyone being stupid until Detective Avon demonstrates the obvious, and reveals the killer, while turning his back on said killer...... during the reveal.....

Good evening, rewatchers. The real problem with this episode is, of course, that Servalan isn't in it. Or at least, isn't seen. She's probably up to something behind the scenes. Meanwhile, Cally seems to have forgiven everyone fo forgetting her last time, letting her be tortured etc etc, so it's not all bad.

They've all been aboard together for a while. I'd be more surprised if it was someone they didn't recognise.

Is someone mending the road nearby? That's what usually causes traffic chaos here. Glad you could make it home.
