UK Rewatch - A4 Time Squad (Tuesday, January 20th)
trevor travis
The episode: Albert Four – Time Squad (Carry On Homicidal Maniac)
The date: Tuesday, January 20th, 2026
The time: 7.45pm UK time

In which the seven are complete, and Jenna finds out about Gan's limiter while they try to keep the homicidal maniacs at bay. And talking of homicidal maniacs (well, as far as the Federation are concerned), Blake starts his terror campaign by blowing up Oldbury / Gloucestershire Power Station.

Episode in a word: Cally.
Character to cheer: Our favourite guerrilla fighter does make a memorable debut here by kicking Blake’s ass.
Characters to boo: The homicidal maniacs, obviously.
Is Soolin looking lovely this week?: Yes.
Recognisable Face: The three…. (SPOILERS!) four homicidal maniacs are played by extras and don’t get any dialogue. So let’s concentrate on someone else, even though we probably also see the odd flash of his face. Frank Maher does the stuntwork here. He was in tons of shows, including the Avengers, where he was beaten to a pulp by Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg on a regular basis. Oh, and he was Patrick McGoohan's double in the Prisoner.
Best line: What could it be apart from: “I plan to live forever. Or die trying.”

Blake’s 7 will return in… Carry On Again Homicidal Maniac
Vote Og.

It’s 19:45 Earth Standard Time, and here is the news from Earth Dome 1. I am your in-studio reporter, Lee R. Pantsonfire.

Our top story tonight, Blake remains at large. To discuss the matter, I am joined by a ranking member of the Ministry of Information, a man with direct access to the president. Secretary Rontaine, welcome.

Thank you Lee, it is an honor to be here addressing your law abiding Federation Citizens.

Sir, what can you tell us about the Administration's response to the Blake problem?

Well, Lee, as you know, there has been no word of Blake since he escaped en route to the penal colony on Cygnus Alpha. It appears he is hiding in deep space. What this means for his speedy recapture is anyone’s guess. The problem, Lee, is that Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space. Nevertheless, rest assured The Federation will not let a minor inconvenience like Infinity stand in the way of justice. Secretary Bercol and I have a meeting with the President in a few days, and that will be followed immediately by a meeting with Supreme Command Headquarters.

Secretary Rontaine, I must interrupt you for a live update. Blake’s stolen spacecraft has just been spotted by a civilian freighter in the Centero sector, alongside a derelict alien craft. Apologies for the interruption, secretary Rontaine.

No apologies are necessary, Lee, Thank you, that’s what I wanted to know.

That reminds me of when I put this together a few years ago:

A4a: TIME SQUID

SELECTED DIALOGUE:

KROLL: “Give us the Liberator.”
BLAKE: “Never.”
DESPAIR SQUID: “Then we still destroy you.”

AVON: [Mimicking Tarzan, as he swings onto Kroll’s back] “AAH-AHAHAHH-AHAHAHH!”

JENNA: “What’s Avon doing?”
CALLY: “He’s throttling Kroll to death with that chain.”
JENNA: “But he’s wearing just a pair of black studded underpants.”
CALLY: “I know!”

VILA: “So, what happened to the Despair Squid?”
ZEN: “I took care of that! Limpet mines - there's enough fried Calamari out there to feed the whole of Italy.”

LINES OF DIALOGUE:

BLAKE 97
JENNA 62
AVON 55
CALLY 40
VILA 38
GAN 29
ZEN 20
KROLL 15
DESPAIR SQUID 12
TEL TARRANT 7
DEL TARON 5
TAL TERRON 5
DEV DARRANT 4
SOOLIN 1
TOTAL 390

ANALYSIS: “Time Squid” is the fabled ‘lost episode’ of B7, transmitted at 2am in the morning due to its explicit content and then deleted from the BBC archives. Some even questioned whether the episode was ever made at all, until Avon’s studded underpants appeared on eBay.

Judging from the shooting script, the dialogue is probably the weakest in Season A. However, it does contain many of Gan’s more memorable lines, while Soolin’s single comment of “Can you pass the soap?” is considered one of the greatest pieces of dialogue in B7.
