UK Rewatch - B11 Gambit
trevor travis
The episode: Barney Eleven – Gambit (Carry On Space Gambling)
The date: Tuesday, June 14th, 2022
The time: 7.45pm UK time

In which Blake’s continuing attempts to find Star One are completely overshadowed by: (1) Avon and Vila going on a gambling spree with the help of baby Orac, (2) Servie as the Lady In Red, (3) Travis, who seems to be playing a wronged hero from a western. Now, where’s my chess set?

Episode in a word: OTT.
Characters to cheer: The Lady In Red. Servie is simply wonderful in the hands of Robert Holmes – pass that dictionary! Krantor and Toise are a great double act, while Avon and Vila trying to play innocent in the final scene is a hoot. Even the minor characters in this are terrific, such as the sadistic Klute, the scene-stealing Croupier, and of course, Servie's rather thick powder puff.
Character to boo: Blake for not killing Travis at the end – a decision that nearly ended in the galaxy being conquered by aliens.
Is Soolin looking lovely this week?: Yes.
Recognisable Faces: Aubrey Woods (Krantor) played the Controller in “Day Of The Daleks”, a Doctor Who serial from 1972. In that he's also under silver make-up. I’m sure I also recognise the voice of John Leeson (Toise) from somewhere. If he said “Master” or “Mistress”, it might help me remember where from! Let's ask Pasco if he knows.
Best line: “When the Federation finally cleans out this cesspit, I shall have that vulpine degenerate eviscerated with a small and very blunt knife.”

Blake's 7 will return in… Carry On Space Camping
Vote Og.

Brad
While Servalan and Krantor banter,
His costume’s divine, hers is scanter,
Vila frustrates Ze Klute, while Kerr grabs the loot.
And the rest of the cast’s in the tavern.

This week I hope to join you.
Last week I was in deepest darkest Devon (in a farm just outside Collumpton) where the internet was very very weak and I didn't fancy sitting poised on a window sill (even for a glimpse of that rather nice computer expert wearing THAT flowing black shirt!!!).
Cold! You don't know the meaning of the word cold!

Hi, everyone. I won't be rewatching this one because I'll be at my Stage Society AGM, hoping we can plan a post-covid village pantomime for next Christmas. Hope you have a fun evening.

And a good hat. He should wear it more often.

the more I watch this episode, the more I discover words and expressions with hidden double meanings. Of course you, as native speakers, are already familiar with this phenomenon.

I am enjoying a rather nice sherry with this - didn't buy it from Travis, though.

It's not so much the words that are said, as it is the way in which Aubrey Woods says them.

Aubrey Woods obviously enjoys his role very much. His dialogue with John Leeson is very entertaining and both actors's timing is fantastic.
