Sounds truly excellent! Can’t wait to see what they do with Star One and Aftermath!

Hopefully should get my set today, yesterday RM advised delivery Tue, but this morning I get an update, delivery is now today! Happy days!!

I agree, although the hair dryer spaceship has to stay!

Haha - Joe, I tried to figure it out right at the beginning when you first posted it up. It just made no sense to me and I don't have Imgur or anything like that, so I just gave up. I know how to (laboriously) upload pics to news features or articles (a ridiculous system!) but I think I'll just have to accept that the forum will just have to be words for me. I'm sure your guide has been helpful to people with greater tech skills than I.

Yes, although had a full on evening yesterday so only managed a brief watch. Has yours arrived also?

1st thing is the box, artwork and booklet, quite outstanding! So glad someone with a love for the show has overseen this!

Dipped into Time Squad to sample the blu ray quality and to compare new SX with old. Wow! The picture quality is amazing, not 4K perfect but a massive jump up over the dvd, so much detail and colour on the screen, very, very happy! The sound is likewise a huge upgrade, everything so clear and balanced.

Then the updated FX, are very well done. The onscreen readout on the liberator display is well thought out and in keeping, it blends perfectly. The actual docking sequence in this episode is in no way jarring, is in keeping and improves the tension of the scene rather than adding SF for the sake of it. The good thing is we get cleaned up version of the original SF, which was pretty decent in this scene for budget/period, so we can appreciate that too. Even the drawn picture liberator shots look great cleaned up. There is joy in watching both versions.

It’s evident a lot of thought has gone into the updated FX, with clear parameters and goals, of what to achieve, so far it’s been a revelation! Those are my initial thoughts, can’t wait to dive in properly and explore all the episodes and bonus features.

Hearing all the glowing reviews of this new offering I think we need to think seriously about getting the disc set and a Blu-Ray player.

It seems whatever glitch was happening to your posts is now resolved as your post has appeared just fine. The website sometimes seems to have a mind of its own - Federation sabotage perhaps! Please let us know if you notice any further problems.

I got my copy and i`m loving this nostalgia trip!. I wonder how long we'll have to wait for the rest of the seasons?.
The blu ray is great my ony minor gripes is that it lingers a bit too much on booting for an audio menu instead of the usual menu and that the default viewing is with new effects off which requires going to into the special features to turn it on.

How do the new FX look like in the context of an episode?
I’m four episodes in now and I can say the effects look really good. They are sympathetic to the period, although very HD. This isn’t a negative comment though, they look beautiful, but can be slightly jarring in context, the same way they can sometimes be on the earlier releases in the Dr Who range.

I do a fair bit of amateur effects work in my spare time. I’m by no means as talented as the team behind these, but if it was me I’d probably have taken the resolution down to SD, then upscaled to make it look more sympathetic to the surrounding VT footage, or I’d have put a film grain filter over the new footage and made them look like film inserts.

But this is just my personal taste and I don’t want to detract from the excellent work that’s gone into this. They really do look fantastic as is!

The quality of the restoration is first class. The episodes have never looked or sounded better than this.

Roll on series 2 (or B!)

Absolutely agree with you on this. Some film grain would have been more fitting. The effects are tasteful but you can tell they look in a different era quality wise.

Love love love this. Can’t believe how brilliant the episodes look in comparison to the dvds and streaming options. I collect the Doctor Who sets as well and, for me, they are the gold standard of what media releases like this should be and thankfully this set is up to that standard, with the amazing restoration work, fx, special features etc.
Having seen the originals so many times I went straight down the new fx route, sitting in the dark when those slightly tweaked opening titles of “The Way Back” kicked in blew me away, it took me a several rewatches of that before I could get into the the actual story :-)
One thing I did note is the conspicuous lack of Darrow on the extras, hopefully it’s not a rights thing and won’t be an issue on future releases (which can’t come soon enough).

I'm up to Time Squad so far picture is mostly better, outdoor shots same as original dvd. IMHO.
Question though it's in 4:3 format PAL (original) BBC
Mine seems to be 4:3 (PAL) format.
Is it in wide-screen?
On 50 inch LG 4k TV
Am I missing something?
Cheers OVZ

4:3 is the correct format, it was transmitted that way.
The special edition variants are sympathetic to the originals rather than a complete re-do so even though things like sfx shots and sound might be redone it’ll still be faithful to the broadcasts.
I’m not sure if everything shot on film was available for remastering but certainly from what I’ve seen the one thing I do notice a definite improvement on is the location stuff.

I watch on a 4k set-up which auto upscales but weirdly it looks much better when that function is disabled.

A bit late, but got there in the end. We got our Series One Blu-Ray Blake's 7 discs Friday and promptly ordered a Blu-Ray player, which we didn't have. Really looking forward to the new pristine episodes and all the extras! And eagerly awaiting Series 2.

I knew it was in 4:3 I just thought It might have been reformed.
I got on a 4k TV which upscales automatically, but In 4:3.
I prefer in original format personally, only seen a few originals that look better in wide-screen, letterbox etc
But thank Htershane you for the reply and answered
