UK Rewatch - D3 Traitor
Paula
Well, that was a real mélange of ideas there. And a very good use of already-paid for costumes! A fun episode if you don't look to closely! See you next time- night all.

Thanks everyone. Cracking episode that one! See you next time for some long, lingering shots of Soolin, Avon, Soolin, Tarrant, Soolin and have I forgotten someone? Oh yes... Soolin!

I will be missing another Rewatch. This time it is a committee meeting for the Friends of a local wood. So I will check in afterwards! Is it Servalan???

Lorna, we can confirm that the lady is in feathers is not Evil Big Bird, but in a shocking turn, it is Servie!

Probably my least favourite episode when I was eight. There's no grey ideas when you're a kid. It's all black and white and Servie was a villian, so I hated that she was still alive.

Why would he be listening to Jethro Tull? < gets coat and runs >

There's naught wrong with Jethro Tull, lassie. Any man that can rock a flute is okay in my book.

Any man that can play a flute standing on one leg is more than ok in my book

You'll regret wishing that or, at least, mentioning it out loud.

Rewatched this today, so thought I might as well share some thoughts. First half is better than the second for me. Particularly liked the properly fleshed out, 3-dimensional Federation characters in this, courtesy of Robert Holmes.
The idea of releasing Igin with a marker on him in order to wipe out the whole column is clever though fails ultimately. Also enjoy the scene with the adapted helots attacking the columnists only to fall prey to a carefully planned ambush. Some good musical accompaniment from Dudley Simpson here and in the scene of Hunda swimming underwater.
Good to see some proper science being used (Roche's Limit) rather than technobabble.

Part 2 is more problematic. Not keen on the laboratory scenes. Also the final climactic fight scene is confused. Presumably this was meant to be filmed on location in Dorset but they ran out of time or were hit by the wet weather that characterised Spring of 1981. The studio remount is not good, with all that smoke wafting around. It looks like all of Hunda's troops are killed and only Dayna and Tarrant of the good guys survive. Thus the rebellion on Helotrix is finally over. Of the Fed troopers only Sleer( Servalan) and Leitz escape. only for the latter to be stabbed in the neck by the deadly icicle after threatening to blackmail Servalan. I quite like the shot of Servalan with the planet superimposed behind her toward the end of the episode.

Overall 7/10. Part one is worth an 8 and part 2 only a 6 imo.
