Rewatch Downunder Saturday 21st September C12 Death Watch

The bitchy Viscast presenter and his producer are great fun - drawn from life, presumably.

Tarrant clearly knows that his brother is the champion of Teal. Very anxious to see the contest, while trying to pretend that he isn't. How does he think the others won't find out?

Tarrant's not one for thinking. Or empathy. Or sense.

That's interesting.

I just love how they have Tarrant's brother and he's like some sort of super famous super suave celebrity and as viewers we just have to accept it from the first frame. I don't think they even really introduce him? The show just acts like we already know.

It does that a few times, it's disconcerting but it works

Those flying cameras are great. I was just watching a kickstarter video for a camera drone this morning. These imagined ones look very similar to them.

He doesn't like letting other people in - like his brother.

Welcome AnneArthur!

Hi JD, I hope you are well.

Not too bad, thanks Tyce, though I've got some nonsense going on that's not helping things.

Did you get the goat to keep the lawn down? We had a couple of goats when I was a in high school, except the bloke on the next property had a herd and ours kept running away to join them.

Sorry to hear you have some horrid stuff happening. Hope it is resolved quickly.

I wonder if anyone's written Deeta's backstory? Room for a ficlet, Dodgyville!

I love the way they use the passing light to give the illusion of movement to the subsurface shuttle.

It works very well.

They also do the voices right at the start, when the proclamation of war is being transmitted to the Teal Star.

I like the way that they don't recognise Tarrant in a wig . . .

Well, Vinni isn't a very big role - I imagine he would enjoy doing the voice-overs.

A wig doesn't cut it for me. Brothers would have to be twins to look so alike. Deeta nees a scar or something. And different make-up.

And different teeth. Not difficult to do with some sort of falsies.

I’m really sad. I can’t get to Leicester by Saturday for the sci-fi convention with Jan and Sally. :-g

You've had quite enough fun for one year! Get out there and mow something.

What space delicacy is Max eating from that little box?

25m: Vila calls Cally asking to come back up to the Liberator as the whole planet (and bars) is closed to watch the game.

Cally was enjoying her quiet time I think

27m: Avon confronts Servalan and inexplicably kisses her

Look at the colour palette in this scene! It's is pure 80s but right at the start in 1980. It's so beautiful too.

Perhaps he's testing out some shoulder protectors to wear when using his new eco-space-scooter?

It gets even more 80s in season 4, with all the grey costumes.

Otters' noses?

Otter noses? Like reindeer noses but with chili in them?

(It's the chili that makes them 'otter.)

Deeta's grateful that Max has explained about the mind discs.

He thought those after dinner mints tasted funny.

A cocktail? I'm impressed at the range of drinks they have - and that they have managed to keep them away from Vila for so long.

30m: A local explains to Tarrant how everyone participates by experiencing the fight through the eyes of the combatants.

I know VR has had several fad eras but this kind of immersion is so current and 1980 was really before home computer games really took off.

It reminds a bit of Player of Games by Iain Banks, written in 1988

You know they make a point of putting up on the screen that Teal is black and Vendor is red - even if you overlook the fact that teal is a colour in it’s own right LOL - why are the discs blue and green? Surely they should match their outfits.
