Vila was excellently professional in this.

Vila is low key often the most useful one on the team

When he's not whingeing. He does little of it in this ep.

But they still had to make him the clown by forgetting the directions straight after hearing them. Just in case we forgot he's supposed to be the comic relief.

Indeed. But it's not too bad. I like at the start where he opens the roof and B + A look at him in amused disgust.

Yes. I just wish they'd leave him alone, as it were. Or poke fun at somone else occasionally. He's a lot more use than Blake.

Thanks dodgyville, that's very kind. I'll just skip it and get on with things.

Or sit here for 166.5 hours and be really early for next week.

We shall be in Steventon. I'm not sure what will happen then. MsVirn? MAybe Tyce and I can find a way to rewatch at our hotel.
Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

You've got a point there.

I don't see that as a comic moment, but a plot deficiency they papered over at the cost of the character.

Next week - I'll set up the rewatch as usual (but with the right time) although I don't know how many will be able to join in. I'm likely to be travelling to Steventon on the Saturday and I'll have my pc with me but I doubt it will be practical to watch en route!

42m: Ah, there's just this moment where Vila is hiding against a wall. He's wearing a plum coloured suit, the wall is a red ochre and there's a bright pink light. I always thought it was a dated colour palette as a kid but it's quite pleasing actually and I understand why they ran with those colours in 1979.

It's certainly not funny.

Also a distinct lack of ORAC tonight. Nation must've felt it would've resolved the bomb plot too easily maybe. He was also quite hostile to K-9 in Doctor Who so I guess he had a thing about robot companions even though ORAC was his creation. Yes I am really getting inside Terry Nation's head tonight.

Ok. Maybe Joe and dodgyville can do it. I'm sure Tyce and I will try to offer a word of support or two (if I can remember my password). See you – literally – next week.

Nice! They didn't manage to include the orange/brown combo though.

Well, good to see you all, Obsidian, MC Virn, AnneArthur, and dodgyville, albeit only momentarily.

"Countdown" is a really good episode. I like the action scenes we get at the start (the one in Rumours is good, too), the countdown, the face from the past, the personal revelations. If only the countdown timer kept proper time, or at least lined up with the 'tick' sound effect.

There's a bit at the start where Grant & the triumvirate of Albians are working out what to do and the lady Albian (Ralli? Ravilli? Something like that) says "And what are you going to do?" and Grant replies, "Worry. That's what I'm going to do; worry." For some reason I keep thinking Grant's going to call her sweetheart and ask her to bring him a cup of tea.

Well, good night all.

He wanted Daleks in B7 too, but (and I'm thinking this probably applies to K9 as well) there were rights issues and he wasn't able to get round them.

It's been said he wouldn't let K-9 in the same story as the Daleks as he didn't want anything that would detract/rival/defeat them, which is why the dog is absent in Destiny of the Daleks

He also says she can go with Blake if she wants to, as if she's not really necessary to his rebellion. Nice gritted teeth response from her!

The only question is whether this is Grant or Nation. It goes back to that WW2-vibe I reckon. Could see the exact same dialogue in a war film.

Sounds like useful stuff, though. Speaking as Fed, you understand. Bye for now. See you in a couple of weeks!
