Deary me, I had another senior moment. Sorry, folks! This month's word prompt is ... COMMAND And for the second challenge: The crew have gathered to witness a once-in-a-lifetime natural phenomenon, but what happens next is not what they expected. Happy writing! |

Phew...only one prompt this month as I'm still getting over that op I had at the beginning of the month...and Lurena has even provided a piccie!!!! Command Performance “Open Sesame? What sort of command is that?” Vila asked. +A very old command from the Old calender. Used by a character in a story to open a vault that contain treasure beyond measure+ Orac replied. “Well that’s different...” +Indeed. It is to do with intonation and such...+ “Oh, like sound. This character said it it in such a way that the sound opened the vault?” +Precisely.+ “I’ll have to bear that in mind next time I come across a door I can’t open.” + Very well. Now I have other research to do.+ Vila studied the blank wall. “This one is difficult. I mean, there’s no lock.” “That much is obvious,” Avon said. “What about those words you keep saying?” Blake asked. “What words?” “The ones you’ve been constantly repeating to yourself,” Avon replied. “Oh! Those words? It was something Orac came up with. Something to do with a very ancient text. Open something or other. Now what was it? Open Says I?” The wall stayed blank. “I don’t think that was it,” Blake remarked. “So this ancient text,” Avon began, “What did the intonation of these words actually do?” “They opened a vault that contained great treasure.” Avon thought for a moment, “Try and remember those words, Vila.” Vila pondered. “Oh yes, I remember now...Open Sesame! OPEN SESAME!! OPEN...” “Vila wake up!” It was Blake, roughly shaking him. “Vila!!” “What? Where? Did it work?” “Did what work?” “Me saying those words. Did the cave open? Was it full of treasure?” “No. it opened all the doors on the Liberator,” Blake said. “And your snoring woke us all up?” Avon groaned. “I do not snore!” Vila protested. “Exactly where did you get those words from?” Blake demanded. “Orac told me. It comes from a very ancient text and...” “I think an explanation from Orac is in order,” Avon murmured, “Excuse me.” “Well?” Blake and Vila asked in unison. “It seems that Orac, with its co-conspirator Zen, has been playing a very old game that also comes from the Old Calender. It seems that back then there was a day called April Fool’s Day where pranks and tricks were the order of the day...the morning at least.” “So those words don’t work. But the doors opened every time I said them,” Vila wailed. “That’s because Orac and Zen were watching you,” Avon explained. Vila slumped in his bunk, “That’s not fair.” “No it is not,” Avon agreed, “but I have rebuked Orac.” “In what way?” Blake asked. “Another very ancient custom; Guy Fawkes Night otherwise known as ...Bonfire night! Any more mischief and that fate will await it.” Vila smiled,” And I’ll make sure that I have a commanding view!”

So Orac and Zen do have a sense of humor And that looks to be a very serious lecture that Avon is delivering.Hope you are feeling better, Sue. |
