The episode: Derek Eleven - Orbit * (Carry On Dieting) The date: Tuesday, December 12th, 2023 The time: 7.45pm UK time * Other flavours of chewing gum are available. A reminder of the Season Derek drinking game, with one special addition for this episode: Here’s the number of sips/swigs per each of these: Avon is knocked unconscious 1 A scientist dies/is already dead (per scientist) 5 A member of the main cast wears the same costume as last week (per costume) 2 There’s the sequence (or part of the sequence) of Scorpio landing / taking off at Xenon Base 3 Vila drinks something red (per scene) 10 Tarrant falls in love 5 Soolin shoots someone (per person) 5 Slave says “sorry” (each mention) 1 Each mention of “Sleer” 2 Avon laughs manically and/or smiles inappropriately 5 There’s a downbeat ending in sharp contrast to the jangly end theme 10 The final shot of the episode includes Paul Darrow 3 A member of the main cast is killed or stunned (per cast member) 1 bottle of wine / 1 can of beer Avon hunts down his 'best mate' with the intention of killing him and throwing him out of an airlock – as much alcohol as you can get your hands on! In which Avon intends to blow up entire planets using one of those old TV/Video combos that they had at schools in the 1980s; we also find out Avon is also a keen model builder and knocks up extra Oracs in his spare time; Orac is a toerag; and Vila really wishes he'd gone on that diet. Egrorian insists we all watch this episode, or he'll come around and break our arms. Prepare to laugh and then cry, in arguably the most disturbing episode - a true Robert Holmes masterpiece. Episode in a word: Treachery. Character to cheer: Vila is in fine form in this episode… well most of it. He dreams about living for forever (again) and defuses the tension down on the base with some quips. Characters to boo: Two biggies here. Firstly, Avon. Rather than hunt down Vila like a dog, maybe Avon should have taken a moment to ask Orac the right question e.g. “Orac, what could cause extra weight on this shuttle, given Egrorian’s scientific specialities?” Avon’s much vaunted brains are absent once more, as they were in “Assassin”. And Orac is a complete and utter git for putting the horrible thought or murdering Vila in Avon’s mind. Vila, you have full permission to turn the treacherous lump of heartless plastic into a drinks dispenser. Is Soolin looking lovely this week: Yes. Recognisable Face: John Savident (Egrorian) was Fred Elliott in British soap opera “Coronation Street”. Of course, this is his second appearance in B7 – he was also ‘Old Star Killer’ in “Trial” in a somewhat different role. Best exchange: VILA: “It certainly takes some getting used to.” AVON: “What does?” VILA: “Knowing we've finally cracked it. All I want now is to find a way of living forever... All we have to do is knock out a few planets for target practice, then name our own terms. We can have whatever we want! Think of it... I'll have an imperial palace with solid diamond floors, and a bodyguard of a thousand handpicked virgins in red fur uniforms. Vila's Royal Mounties.” AVON: “You're dreaming again.” VILA: “A man has a right to dream. Anyway, what's to stop us? I suppose it will get boring after the first fifty years, eh?” Blake's 7 will return in “Carry On Radioactive Airborne Virus.” Vote Og.

I look behind me, what do I see? A pair of golden wings seem to be attached to me.

Good evening everybody! OK, I am ready... I was in doubt, I always find this episode hard to watch even though it is an excellent episode with superb acting, mainly by Michael Keating, but then... I hope to be able to complete my comments in time. There is a slight problem with my muscles. *No, I am not. I am not expendable, I'm not stupid, and I'm not going.*

Just what we need, a nice, light hearted, fun episode to get us all in the holiday spirit. Yes, that's just what we need. Unfortunately, we have Orbit. Where the wheels finally come fully off the Blake's 7 bus. . . Cockatoo? What Cockatoo? I don't see a Cockatoo! |

Evening all! ![]() Just imagine the alternative version of Orbit: Avon: What weighs 70 kg? Orac: Your leather and studs weigh 73 kg. Avon starts to strip. Now, that would be firm favourite with our Avon ladies! |

When I was 1st watching this, I couldn't believe what Avon seemed to be doing. I still have trouble thinking he would have chucked Vila out of the airlock.

[quote name=Lurena post=41505]Any suggestions for a word programme that doesn't mean paying an annual subscription? I've been using TextMaker by SoftMaker since my student days. While they also have a subscription model, there is also a purchase version and even a free version lacking a few of the more fancyful features (e.g. the connection to the authoritative German dictionary Duden, which you wouldn't need anyway). I'll look up the links and them them to you after the rewatch. |

When I was 1st watching this, I couldn't believe what Avon seemed to be doing. I still have trouble thinking he would have chucked Vila out of the airlock. It would have been an interesting alternative to see what might have happened if Vila and Avon had come face to face. In my head, I have an image of Vila ejecting himself out the airlock, not in self sacrifice, but knowing Avon was going to do it anyway, and not wanting to give Avon the satisfaction (if that's the right word). And then Avon makes it back to Scorpio, and they all believe he murdered Vila. . . Cockatoo? What Cockatoo? I don't see a Cockatoo! |

How would we describe Avon's demeanour/actions at the beginning of this story? Highly strung?
