Rewatch Downunder, Saturday 9th December D11 Orbit

I get the impression that the rest of the crew have distanced themselves from Avon now that he's gone weird and obsessive.

Hello, sorry I'm late, as usual. A miserable day here, pouring with rain. Fortunately, I don't have to go out anytime soon.

Hi AA, glad to have you aboard. Are you well?

BTW, Servie's dress this week is special.

The innuendo in this episode is terrific. I have no idea how any person who was a child when first watching this imagines they understood everything. Actually, I think that about the whole show.

It was like watching Bugs Bunny with my father. I always knew he was getting something out of it that we weren't.

I was completely surprised by the subtexts when I started watching again as an adult. But there is enough there without them to satisfy a child.

I am fine, thank you. And you?

I think they are becoming increasingly nervous about him. I imagine there might be little conversations taking place in odd corners of the base, behind his back.

Note how it suddenly sprouts an additional strap after the rather revealing profile a few minutes ago.

D11 Orbit. Start time 8.30pm Downunder, 9.30am in the UK.

The moral of the story is: never buy a new weapon from a mad scientist, or believe Avon would ever swap
Orac for one.

What WAS Servalan thinking?

I think the object must be to get rid of Egrorian and neutralize the threat of his weapon, but her logic seems typically Byzantine.

Oh yes; Byzantine exactly. Tho' I did like Ms Virn's interpretation.

I am sure that the outside chance of a snog is at the back of her mind . . .

Do you? Perhaps a little cast adrift rather than distancing themselves. Avon and Vila are actually at the same level of freaked but Avon thinks he's responsible for decision-making and has to be doing things. Obsessed with doing something – anything. Desperation leads to mistakes.

Meanwhile, is that a green BT telephone in the background?

No, it would seem to be something green in front of a cream or white BT telephone.

The casual way Avon holds ORAC rather gives the game away.

Servalan sets off at a run to get her hands on Orac. Imagine her diappointment...

I imagine that actually getting ORAC was only ever an outside chance - a nice possible extra.

Servie's got to get rid of Egrorian now. Her face when he's describing his daft plan is wonderful.

Good on you, Dayna, stating the obvious again. She does a lot of that - moving the plot on to the next point.

How come Vila is suddenly so good at engineering spaceships?

Like Tarrant? Perhaps they are all using study as an excuse to get out of Avon's way.

They could get rid of all those BBC dinner trays plus all the silver trays! Surely that would be 70kg. LOL

Time is of the essence and it's the very clear indication that Avon's playing for time. They ought to have crashed by now.

I like the sinister lighting on Avon's face as he's looking for Vila.

Sorry, Avon fans, but Jacks is utterly unbeatable.

Aw shucks it's finished. Might need to go and watch it again. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

It's a very well done scene. The tension between Avon thinking but at the same time trying to cover his backside by wheedling is class plus the light-shadow lighting is excellent.

I'd love to rewatch. They're always over so quickly. Unfortunately, got pricing to do. Grumph. Not how I want to spend the rest of Saturday evening.

That is such a good episode. Thanks for the rewatch. Today might be a day for Christmas cards, I think - that and curling up with some more Blakes 7.

The lighting on the terrified Vila is also excellent. A very well-done scene all round.

Bye Tyce. Have a good week. Have you noticed that Sally, Jan and Brian are going to the States next February? No excuse at this end for March, then.
