I'm not convinced Doran is a mysogenist. He just doesn't like women. Maybe he was abused by his five older sisters. And double-crossed by his mum. And dumped by the girl he fell in love with at the academy. And beaten up by his ex-mother-in-law... When Doran gets aggravated, he kills people . . . |

And I do like Avon's decision to run. Though everyone and everyTHING gets blasted in the last few minutes, I still like running as a serious mission-statement.
Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Would you prefer 'Buddleia Thickets'? In which case it would have to be a 'Tussle', not a fight.

My mother, younger brother and I once went for a Walk in the Black Forest while my father was doing business in Stuttgart. Needles to say, we hummed loudly. I'm wondering if the names 'Grose' and 'Lector' are derived from 'gross' and 'lecher', and if so whether the name 'Doran' was transformed from some other negative term. It's probably coincidence and has no bearing. |

I wondered if they were taken from names in literature, the way that Chris Brookmyre took the name of the character Jack Parlabane from Robertson Davies books, and several other character's names. Do check out his 'Bedlam" and 'Places in the Darkness' for some good sci-fi writing and B7 references. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Well, not one of my favourite episodes. I think the whole 'future human turns out of be a pathetic homunculus' thing is a bit hackneyed. But it has its moments. Death Watch is much more fun, I think. |

Any link with Hannibal Lecter? The episode does reference cannibalism at one point. |

Well, they're going to turn into something pathetic if they eat only cooked greens and nuts, but the likelihood of their having any brain cells to rub together in that instance seems slight. (Don't bother, I'll ask one of my cadets). Great episode, brilliant comments as always, Anne opening up things with new ideas, Obsidian telling us like it is...I love Aussie rewatches! Even Chris Boucher just used names of people he hated working with. (He didn't even file the serial numbers off when he copied "The Picture of Dorian Gray". I mean, at least change the guy's name, CB!) |

The Grose always seems to me to relate to the informal English and the French and German etc. - big, fat, heavy. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

I just think it's a bit obvious - and ultimately derives from The War of the Worlds, where the Martians are basically hands and brains. |

I think he was a lot smarter than many warrant him with, but 'gross!' was an expletive of the 1970s and it comes from German "grosse" and French "gros' and they all mean pretty much what the actor who plays him does his best to impart. Hannibal Lecter was published in Silence of the Lambs later than this series so our Lector didn't come from that. Possible was someone spiteful BS knew. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Possibly, but in B7 we do see a bit of a pondering about what humans will become, not what we might expect to see out of other so-called intelligent life forms. Most humans aren't intelligent and most of the things with which they credit themselves over other creatures aren't theirs solely, to wit: the ability to plan and/or use tools. So glad you could make it Joe and really hope we get a chance to catch up later in the year either through Sirens or the long-overdue Tyce-Con II. I'm putting together a B7 glass ware collection and need a name for it: Vila's Guide to B7 Barware or something. Must go have my dinner. Thanks for the great rewatch everyone. Hopefully will catch up again next week. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.
