Rewatch Downunder Saturday 9th September C11 Moloch
M1795537OCVirn
And as usual, we start at 7.30pm for Aussies, 10.30am for Brits. Or thereabouts.

C11 Moloch
Servalan's back, and on the lookout for more troops. Somehow she manages to team up with Vila and they both live to tell the tale. Avon eats an apple, while Colonel Astrid hangs about looking pale and not at all interesting, almost as if he wasn't a real person.
Spoiler alert: for once, Cally is not taken over by an alien.
No mice were harmed in the making of this episode, by the way.
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

Two minutes to go, and I'm all alone here. Anyone out there I mean, this is such a good episode (well, the bit with Servalan and Avon is) I could watch it by myself but it would be so much more fun with you lot.

Not alone MsVirn, though I admit to feeling not 100% here. Still mostly asleep. My hours are messed around from spending a few days on Northern hemisphere times.

Did you remember to share this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nL1-...nL1-jnCkfw with the punters last week? Meant to remind you but was wading through crossed time-zones then, too.
Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Shall we start? I don't mind this ep at all, despite the silly Moloch character. It's a clue as to how nasty things are getting out there in Federation land.

Hello Obsidian, Ms Virn. I don't share your enjoyment of this episode - I think it's the corny monster at the heart of it. But there are a lot of little compensatory pleasures, especially the complete lack of chemistry between Servalan and Vila.

Hello Anne! The 'corny monster' is a respected Federation Officer - or was - so don't disrespect the poor chap.

Moloch? I thought he was a native of the planet.

Probably the first one She could get hold of. I think the home mekeover people will soon be at work.

Sorry: I thought you meant the corny thing that's supposed to be Col. Astrid.

Hi AnneA. Hope all is well with you.

I really like Grose and Lector because they are perfectly horrible and even Vila's "good mate" Doran is objectionable because he admits to disliking women. The silly glove-puppet doesn't distract me from what sits behind the subject matter in this episode – the mistreatment of women, for example.

I think it's brilliant, like the crocodile prow of a New Guinean canoe.

I'm fine, although I didn't get the job, so back to square one. However, the job was only part-time, and I would have had to relocate to Aberystwyth, and it might have been hard to make ends meet.

I agree with Anne - Doran is a great addition. Should have stayed: Vila needs a friend.

Which Anne are you agreeing with? The script strongly hints that Doran is an extreme misogynist, whose crime is probably the sadistic murder of women. I don't think we need him.

Yes, the relocation thing is always off-putting AND a stressor. The only jobs I might have found were all overseas and paying at base rates a lot lower than I'd been paid previously. Having to relocate one retired bloke and two cats would have been too much to bear. I'm sure it puts off anyone with a real life.

It wasn't Doran that I liked. What I like is the interaction between Servalan and Vila - unlike Servalan/Avon or Servalan/Tarrant, there is absolutely no sexual interest on either side. It is made funnier by Doran trying to foster it.

So Servalan's not into wine. Just the champagne. Now we know what to give her for Christmas.

We are not surprised. I'm convinced that his superiority complex came only from his military status, not from being a true Alpha as many fan writers assume; he's too bumptious.

I was thinking that it might be a thing introduced by Tarrant - a remnant of his Federation training.

I wouldn't take what she says here as gospel. She doesn't want to appease Grose and Lecter.
