Rewatch Downunder Saturday 13th May B7 Killer
M1795537OCVirn
Start times 7.30pm Downunder, 10.30am UK.

Killer, in which Cally gets one of her 'feelings', Avon drops in, bigtime, on an old friend and Blake finally manages to do something useful - he saves Servalan's life.

Join us for the usual wide-ranging discussion, much of it nothing to do with the episode, but fun all the same.

Hello everyone. And we're back again for my least favourite episode of Blakes 7. I'm sorry I didn't make Dust on Thursday, MsVirn - I had to go out, sadly.

Oh I'm sorry - that can be horribly painful.

Phew! Made it.

Sorry about the sciatica Pilot. I know a good stretch for the sciatic nerve that apparently helps a lot. All I know is that it's one of those things that hurts so much it's actually enjoyable.

You well MsVirn?

I really like this ep, Paul Daneman is so good.

A gorgeous warm sunny morning here in the UK. Feels almost like summer. A pity you're heading into winter, down there. Raining, is it?

Travisina sends her apologies and her love to you all.

i have to admit Killer isn't one of my favourite episodes. largely because there's no Servalan. But she's in most of the rest of this series so I suppose I shouldn't complain. Also because there's not much that's cheerful in it, what with plagues, thievery, double-crossing and just being plain mean to each other. And some weird costumery.

So your challenge for today is to tell me what's good about the episode, and I might reconsider.

How are you all, BTW?

The stupid costumes are another thing I don't like about this episode. But I do like Tynus and his pet insects.

Where are you? It's cloudy here in York, and cold enough for the heating to have come on again, after about a week off.

I'm about 4 minutes in, I think.

Look, Vila and Avon amongst wild flowers. What's bad about that? And I love the bug outfits. Not that I'd want to be wearing that amount of polyurethane, but other people do and call it "pleather".Grin

It's sunny in the mornings here in Canberra, but that's because it's been clear overnight and that means COLD also.

My main problem with this episode is that there is a deadly plague, and the crew are exposed to it, and it doesn't seem to worry them. I know that of course, the Liberator medical facilities can deal with it, but I would like to have that acknowledged. Vila, at least, should be very afraid - and should say so. It's petty and ridiculous, but it ruins the episode for me.

On the plus side, after a couple of bad episodes for him, this shows Blake's humanitarian instincts at their best.

Yes, I like that too.

While the costumes are clumsy and horrible, the furniture is rather good.

Why name your base after the 17th letter of the alphabet? Are there 16 other, earlier ones? I thought most of them had two letters, anyway - XK 14, XK72 etc.

It's not the only episode with logical inconsistencies but I find it quite sharp. The virus also isn't spread by air; it's clearly spread by contact because our heroes don't contract it and, all those who do, apart from Bellfriar (that we see), have been in contact with the infected. Tynus is an excellent character as well as Bellfriar who is super cool.

This is a Federation base, though - the XK one was independent.

Well now, apart from the fact that every day should be, and is, Mother's Day, the UK one is in March. I still have my balloon.

No, in Britain, and I think only in Britain, it's in March. I used to have an Austrian friend who bought a card on British Mother's Day, then kept it for the Austrian one in May.

And there are no outfits now that are clumsy and horrible? Leggings on the grossly out-sized as on Instagram, per chance?

I like the costumes. They are not pretending to be late 1970s; they are 'out of this world'. Emanuel Ungaro eat your heart out.

Exactly. And, what's more, Greek alphabets appear alien to those with no clue.

But the leggings, I think, are probably quite comfortable for the wearer. These look very difficult to do any sort of work in.
