I mean, if we're talking anachronisms, why were there no girl Space Rats? Or are we back to a Seskas and Hommicks kind of thing? I mean, Dr P can't do all the housework AND solve the drive problems...

There are girl Space Rats. They are the people being slobbered over on the lounge. Remember what Vila says about them being into violence and speed etc.

Another anachronism is Murphy's Law.

Is it anachronistic, though? Plenty of evidence still exists to support that Law!
I find his riddles in 'Ultraworld' much worse - 'parking meteors'? Try explaining that to a modern audience!

It would have transmuted into some other name entirely. Mr. Murphy wouldn't still be getting the credit and very likely it's meaning would have changed as well. After all, many sayings or terms invented only in the 19th century have changed considerably since then.

Quite possibly - but why is that so much worse than the jokes in Ultraworld?

Mind you, I understand a little thing spoiling an episode. I really hate Killer, because I can't get past the fact that Avon, Vila and Blake visit a space station where a deadly airborne virus is raging, and none of them worries about catching it.

The jokes in Ultraworld are dire but are meant to be comedic (would have cheered the kiddies) and so are. Mr. Follett's script doesn't not carry that intention.
Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Okay, folks - gotta dash off.

Thanks for the company, it was fun! Stay well everyone (and look after yourself, Anne) - probably won't see you next week...
There is no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

This is what I have - I would really recommend these.

Now how did you do that, Ms Virn?

Don't you just love these Aussie rewatches! You can learn so much. Never was a Saturday morning /evening better spent.
Sorry this wasn't up to your standards, Obsidian - hope the next one is more to your liking.

In case you were wondering, my guest made her own toast, because I 'looked busy'. Oh well.

Thanks for the company. Have a great pedicure, Travisina. See you all next time, I hope.

My poiint exactly! Still 'girly' roles and no bikes for them!

From what Vila said, that wasn't always the case. Maybe they looked at the stupid trikes and could tell straight away that they were dumb and dangerous and not in a good way. After all, look at those pumped up tyres... Sheesh.

I hadn't realised quite how much you hated this episode.....

I think it's because some people at the time would have thought "This isn't the future, this is me now, and someone is parodying me." It's too close for comfort.

Ah! I think I find 'meant to be comedic' makes 'not comedic at all' even worse!

Yes, all of those. I've been through quite a few sets and demoted some to other uses – helped by my nearest and dearest melting some of them...

Thanks for the rewatch everyone - makes a nice respite from my house falling apart/the government falling apart, even if it wasn't one of the better episodes. Enjoy the pedicure, Travesina, have a nice time with your guest, Ms Virn, and hopefully see you all next week.

I feel for you Anne. Don't push the Covid recovery even if the house has gone to wrack and ruin.

And I feel for all of you over there re the government. Decline and fall. Frown

Have a good week everyone! Hopefully Tyce will be back with us next week instead of wrangling some woes as she was this time around.

Oh poor Tyce!

Re. the goverment, it's the idea of the Once and Future Boris that really annoys me. It was only a few months ago that he completely lost the confidence of his MPs!

Unfortunately, I can't take it easy at work. I've been offered some fairly easy and very lucrative work (which I need, given the amount I am spending on plumbers/electricians/etc.), but it has to be done by Christmas, and I am already playing catch up!

However, we plough on . . .

Can't argue with you regarding Boris but the alternatives are equally hideous. 'Confidence' isn't a word I'd apply to any of them. Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long to find out what you're in for. Statesmanship got lost under a rock long ago. Commiserations.
