Sadly, after a short illness, Stephen Greif passed away on 23 December, aged 78. Although his TV and voice credits are endless, he was best known as Travis in Series 1 of Blake's 7. Other career highlights include stage work at the RSC, National & Old Vic. I've known him for the last 6 years when I produced Just A Little Murder, a show of Greek classics starring Stephen first with Fenella Fielding and then with Dame Sian Phillips. [img][/img] A few days before he attended Forever Avon 2022, there was a performance of Just A Little Murder. I mentioned to him there was a young Australian B7 fan in the audience called Emma, who had flown over for the convention. He told Sian and me how amazing the B7 fans are and how wonderful it had been to be associated with the show. (Sally Knyvette was still a very good friend.) I later read a post on Blakes7online that Emma had contracted Covid and had to miss the convention that weekend, but was touched to receive a personal message from Stephen. He was always the gent. Always knew what to say. He was a truly gifted actor with a wonderful voice, who will be sadly missed. You can read more about Stephen at www.justalittlemurder.com. You can read more about Stephen at www.justalittlemurder.com. Thank you for sharing that link, Simon. A very interesting read and some beautiful photographs. The black and white photo you took of Siân Phillips and Stephen is particularly wonderful. |

Very sad news. Like many others, I saw him at Forever Avon earlier this year. He was always such a gentlemen and seemed to really appreciate meeting the fans of the show. Vote Og.

Rest in peace, Stephen Greif. I wouldn’t be a Blake’s 7 fan without you. “Seek-Locate-Destroy” was my first episode, and one of the things that drew me in was your character and how he played with Blake. I can’t thank you enough for convincing me to join this wonderful fandom.

Very sad news. I remember seeing him in so many things - Citizen Smith, Only When I Laugh, Judge John Deed, Minder to name but a few as well as his stage work - a talented actor and a gentleman. I'll miss chatting to him at the conventions. Rest in peace. |

Terribly sad news. Stephen was magnificent as Travis.

Oh no....I first met Mr G at the Leicester Space Centre Sci fi event and had this photo taken with all the guests who were there. Somehow, Stephen ended up next to me!!! He had the most glorious voice, soft and velvety not at all like Travis. Then on one of the Zoom meetings I asked him about his appearance in the Persuaders. I can't remember for the life of me what his reply was, I was just enthralled that he was somehow, in my hallway!!!! Then at Forever Avon, I and another attendee commented on his suit...just as he was dragged away to do the Auction. He was just so good at getting people to part with their money!!! My Hubby has just remarked that he can't believe it either...Stephen seemed to be in such good health. RIP Mr G. You will be greatly missed. No doubt he and Pauly (as Stephen called Mr D) are up there having a pint...with Gareth!! Cold! You don't know the meaning of the word cold! Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of your window!! I am very saddened by Stephen’s passing away. Stephen was such a nice gentleman, a very talented actor, I have fond memories of him, from a lovely chat during a hotel breakfast to the meet at a convention where he made a humble request for creating the B7 tie, which he liked to wear at following conventions. (and he did!) R.I.P. Stephen, thank you so much for all your excellent work and for being a great friend of our B7 fandom. *No, I am not. I am not expendable, I'm not stupid, and I'm not going.*
Lara&Sue's Blake's 7 stories will be back soon at a new website! |

This is how I choose to remember both Gareth and Stephen Greif. From a photo years ago from some con or another that perhaps someone here will remember the name of... Imagine the two of them looking on, back to life on Earth, mulling it all over with a pint in their hands. It's getting to be that more of our actors are on the other side now than here... let's all hope at least they are together and talking over the good old days. RIP Stephen Greif. You were a consummate actor and all around gentleman. You will be missed! Resist the Host

This photo is one from the outdoor mammoth photo shoot at Deliverance '98 - someone has cropped it as the original has more than the two of them in it as I recall. Though it was a bit chilly they all braved the wind allowing many hundreds of fans to individually run in and out of the group of guests for a quick photo and dear Gareth sensibly brought a drink out with him to keep him warm. Such very sad news. Stephen seemed so full of life at Forever Avon it's difficult to believe he's gone. Having only met Stephen twice, once on Zoom and again at Forever Avon, the thing I remember best is him showing us his recording 'studio', with the mattress against the door and the portrait of his mother with him still in her tum. A lovely, personal touch. What are these euphemistic "short illnesses" which take away such wonderful actors and human beings? I'm getting fed up with them. Thanks for the memories, Stephen, and for all you did for the B7 fandom. Sorely missed. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.
