Day -1. So SNEAKY, you Aussies, starting the day before us! Looking forward to tomorrow, Joe. (Yesterday as far as you're concerned).

I peaked Joe Dredd. How do you do it, year after year? I'll be watching that again and again.

Merry Christmas to you dear lad. Mxxxx
Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Up and running - and with a bit of celebrity endorsement! Can't argue with that.

Oh Mr Dredd, that was sooooo funny! How on Earth did you manage that?!!!
Cold! You don't know the meaning of the word cold!
Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of your window!!

What a grand and funny start to the Advent calendar! While I did not grow up with boom-boom Basil, something in his delivery and of course the buckteeth reminded me of Hase Cäsar (Caesar hare), one of the heroes of my childhood so that I also got a nostalgic vibe from watching this! Thanks, Joe!

(By the way, you could also have booked ze Klute* for delivering your message.)

* But not Del Grant; so don't get overexcited, Paula!

Dear CB
What a lovely little tune and graphics.
Tell me, did the poor man inform anyone about how nice and soft to touch that black leather was?
And I will just ask my Daughter who did Latin at school and can still translate it, just what that word means!

(I have a sneaky suspicion though)

Dear MS Virn. With regards to the reindeer, they don't frequent these parts very often, but I understand from the road signs of late that there is a place that I can see Santa and his REAL Reindeer..so I could go there and have a gander...or. I could do what I did many many many years ago; hide behind my bedroom curtains Xmas Eve and see if I can spot Santa and his sleigh with said reindeer flying over the rooftops! (Alas, that didn't go to plan as I fell asleep that night!!!!)

It's strange how often that happens - I think magic - or maybe soma - must be involved.

Point of clarification on your contribution, Mrs M1 etc. Third image down, column on the far right: are you expecting us to find/experience a virgin birth? I'll ask around but it could be a bit of a tall order - especially here in Oxfordshire.

Agreed. But that's what made the real Christmas special, wasn't it?

If you're struggling, you'll find many schools provide a re-enactment - I vividly remember 'Busy, Busy Bethlehem', and the one where aliens came to find Jesus. Or your attendance at one of those 'Nine Lessons and Carols' services ought to count, too. There's bound to be a model of the said scene somewhere there.
Thanks for trying.

That was marvelous, Hugbot! Grin
I have never understood why it should be necessary to become irrational to prove that you care, or indeed why it should be necessary to prove it at all.

Just catching up with the advent calendar now. Some wonderful entries! I think my favourite is the MR James spoof though - I love the unholy rush of pure arrogance, and Avon as a demon with a devastating line in belittling put downs. And I don't think I'm ever going to be able to see ORAC as anything other than an arca ingeniosa now!

Dear Ms Anne Arthur

Why has it suddenly got hot in this 'ere cold hall?????

Terrific tale, A-A! I always had my suspicions as to what went on in the stationery cupboard at the Federation's office parties...

Thank you!

Cor what a brilliant start. And Joe. Goodness that was brilliant.

I hope Mrs M1 will accept deer in lieu of reindeer and I might be in with a chance.

Troll heaven Hugbot.

Brilliant stories Cygnus Baz and Anne Arthur. Bit jealous that Sue Parva gets the leather britches!

Dear Mr Dredd

I would most certainly have one of those on my tree. From whence are they available?
Space Amazon?
Space Ebay?

Good old Space K-Mart. Must remember to drop in and pick up a nice midnight blue leather tunic with studs across the breast and down the sleeves. Some of the best people are wearing them and we wouldn't want to be left out at Xmas.

Definitely groan! Well up to Vila's usual standard, as evidenced by Ultraworld.

And the Liberator snowflake is beautiful!

Lorna
Vila's jokes are legendary. The cracker companies are stealing them. There were at least 2 in the crackers we had yesterday!!

I loved all the contributors. Especially the Liberator snowflake

LOL My work here is done! I saw a meme on Facebook the other day which read 'I heard a British friend of mine refer to Oreo cookies as chocolate cream biscuits and now I understand why we had to fight the War for Independence!' Just sayin'....

Top-quality contribution, NTG! I'm not going to reveal my result. Suffice to say, you'll be hearing from my therapist.
Meanwhile back in the year one...

Oh, thank goodness. I was worried it wasn’t going to work, I had a couple of odd glitches I wasn’t completely certain got worked out.

Sorry about your result… Pfft

Well, I would never have seen myself as Gan (I suspect he might be rather better at getting the tops off jars, for one thing), but that's what my more or less random answers gave me. I can see I'm going to have lots of fun doing it again and trying to get each crew member in turn. So thank you in advance, NTG.

As long as he doesn't have to land, Sue!!

Oh blimey I got Cally. Now just to practise my ‘taken over by an Alien’ look to get out of the washing up!

Thanks Nerdy that was great fun.

Paula thank you for that cringe/howl with laughter fest.

And Sue, interesting cartoon - I’m really looking forward to the explanation.
Play the hand fate deals you.

Tried Nerdy's quiz twice - got Servalan and Travis. No surprises there, then.
Thanks Nerdyteengirl, well done.

The rest of you have come up trumps, too. Kudos to all contributors - looking forward to the others.

Excellent antidote to the Christmas spirit, Ms Virn - I think that will only become more necessary as the weeks wear on!

And Brad's come up trump[et]s!

Lots of great contributions this year! I will have to go back and comment properly but I got a good chuckle out of Paula's jokes.

Dear Ms Virn
A different take on the Xmas songs now regaling our ears in most shops!!!

And Mr Brad...Nat King Cole would have loved it!!

Lovely Yuletide yarn, LS! Galactic gift deliveries - crikey, even allowing for time dilation etc etc, Santa would need every one of those 'helpers' we got fobbed off with as kids back in the day, in slightly run-down local department stores up and down the country.

Interestingly, I've often suspected Avon might have a secret soft-toy stash, to help him channel his soppier side - well away from prying eyes.
Meanwhile back in the year one...

Awww, Sue, such a cute story. But that smile....
