Rewatch Australia: B13 Star One
Saturday 25th June 2022, 10.30am (UK) / 7.30pm (Australia)

In which our intrepid crew finally reach Star One - but what will they find there...?

Morning, all!

I'm a bit discombobulated today, with an appointment at noon, but have to pop round to in-laws before that and get list of errands & shopping.

So I'll need to skip the rewatch again today. Sigh.

Have fun with one of the very best eps of B7, and possibly the best cliffhanger ending to any SF series ever. I'll catch up with the thread later...

OK, I'm staying on this page now, even though I'm early, because I keep getting distracted into other things and then being late for the rewatch.
Star One is a great episode, but not on my 'favourites' list. At least Servalan gets a few lines and another nice frock.

OK, so I guess we're starting late, as usual. You rebels are hopeless at timekeeping. It's a wonder to me how you manage to meet up at all.

Howdy MsVirn. How are things? It's a shame that Travisina can't join us. Star One IS my favourite episode, although, after The Keeper, I'm not sure why Servie has gone back to base.

Hi, Obsidian. Tell me (while we're waiting) - what's so good about Star One?

Hi!
Just made it.

Hello, Mrs B! Good to hear from you.

My system is crawling at present so sorry if I don't reply to things very swiftly.

I love Star One for the Tension. It's there right from the start with the spacecraft, Service and Durkim, Blake and Avon, Cally & Blake, Jenna busting out of the follower role. Love it! Blood pressure goes up.

Hi everyone. Just started - the two ships are approaching one another. How is everyone?

AnneArthur
A very dramatic beginning, but do you really like this episode better than Blake, Obsidian?

M1795537OCVirn
I do hope you're not questioning Servalan's actions, Obsidian. She can go back to base for any reason she likes. Or none.

My network connection is slow. I'll try to participate, but I am watching.

AnneArthur
Servalan being a politician here. She's frightened, I think.

Hi Anne, sneaking in under the radar. Hope you're well and keeping busy.

AnneArthur
Avon here reminding me of his actions in Blake, in his contempt for rebels.

Yes, I'm fine, and have quite enough work. Hope you're well?

M1795537OCVirn
Blake is so self-centered he can't understand that Avon (or anyone) could have another reason for not wanting to follow his lead than hating him.

Very much down to tunnel vision here.

Yes, there are so many ways in which the characters bounce off each other and question what they are about – what the federation is about and how things are in flux. Travis is the only one who knows what he's about after all the loose ends of last week. It's like shifting the pieces around on a chessboard – things are in flux, on the Liberator, in the Federation, in the Galaxy.

By the way, it is hot here now, for all those attending Forever Avon.

I like Servalan's frock, but that back neck fastening hasn't quite worked. Must have driven costume mad trying to get the thing to meet up properly.

So how did Servalan leave Goth without the location of Star One? Doesn't seem like her.

AnneArthur
I like this scene with Lurena. Watching the first time, you are not sure which of them is mad.

AnneArthur
And I'm now an alpha!

That's the thing I don't quite understand. Both Travis and Servie are there to find the location, not just Blake and Co., but somehow they leave without getting that info. Presumably, Travis gets his right from the horse's mouth, as it were. Why Servie just returns to HQ is puzzling other than the fact that she needs to be there, amongst the troops, to reinforce her position as President.

Sorry I'm so slow. Crawling through mud here. Poor old pooter is clogged.

Presumably, she'd realised Travis had double-crossed her, and went back to her control centre where she could be in touch with what was going on Also she knew Liberator was out there somewhere, following Travis.

I love that they still have time for a joke – "It isn't marked 'Entrance'".

I think she has to be there because her work is there - and there is presumably plenty of it, even when things are not going to hell in a handcart. The trip to Goth must have been a quick dash to get the info - which makes it all the stranger that she left without it.

But Travis's decision to betray the Federation must have been a very sudden one.

Well, Servie wouldn't give him the partnership he wanted. I can't really blame her; she wouldn't have wanted to be still tied to a loser, not if she didn't want to attract derision. Travis was old hat so he decides it's time, but there had to have already been some forward planning and contact with the Andromedans for him to get there so fast.

But if there is forward planning with the Andromedans, why did he need to go to Goth to find the location of Star One?
