December Ficlets
M1795537OCVirn
As in previous years, we suggest that you contribute your ficlets to the B7 Advent Calendar this month, but for any die-hards out here, Travisina sends:

...as it's Advent Calendar Month, these are just an extra thing if people are seeking additional inspiration...

1. December's flower is the Narcissus. Based on the Greek Myth that tells of Narcissus, a beautiful young man who fell in love with his own reflection in a pool, eventually pining away. The gods took pity on him and turned him into the flowers that bear his name (or words to that effect - I went down several Greek-myth rabbit holes, there are lots of different versions, some more gruesome than others. But that's the basic version). Anyway, if B7 characters were to be turned into flowers, what would those be - and why?

2. We're approaching the Winter Solstice, when the days start to become longer / shorter, depending on which of Earth's hemispheres you're in. ( But pity the Alaskans who won't see the sun again until 22nd January!). In B7, Avalon's planet was in the middle of its Long Winter, while Zondar with its twin suns has constant day* and is 'hot enough to fry your eyeballs'.
If forced to choose, which planet would each crew member prefer to live?

Great questions, Travisina! And thanks for all your prompts this year.
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

Ficlets are for the profligate, let's try a December Drabble on theme number 1. And who else could the B7 Narcissus be....

"Beautiful man" said Tarrant, admiring himself in the mirror. A knock at the door of the flight deck toilet cubicle broke his reverie.

"Hurry, I'm desperate?" wailed Vila.

"Go to your own bathroom, I'm preening" replied Tarrant, reaching for his curling tongs. Still admiring his reflection, he grabbed the hot end, screamed, fell backwards into the vacuum-toilet bowl, hitting the flush button on his way down.

All they found on breaking down the door was a tall poppy he'd picked up on their last mission.

His beautiful face, frozen now in the vast nothingness of the void, would never age.
I look exactly as Avon reasoned I would.

I've only just seen this month's prompts...still sailing around Norway in my head!!!!
So I thought I'd have a go...

By Any Other Name

It was strange walking through the garden of the old, now ruined, house.
For Blake it was a chance to show off his knowledge of horticulture which for someone who had had his memory wiped and then replaced with new memories, was in, itself, remarkable, but obviously somewhere in that damaged mind of his was a few remnants of previous knowledge.
“You know, according to Orac, the owners of this place had most of these plants transported from Earth.”
“Really,” Avon replied, not in the slightest bit interested, but walking around outside in the dappled sunlight made a change from the grey interior of the Liberator.
“This was a remarkable place, once, “Blake continued, “Look at those green houses....”
“They are white,” Avon pointed out,” with the shattered remains of glass.”
“I know...but they were called green houses.”
“And what was grown in there?”
“All sorts of things that required heat and ...”
“These look interesting,” Avon said, looking down at the small purple flowers with the yellow centre.
“Ah, now that is called Deadly Night Shade. Very poisinous...just like that Foxglove.”
“Surely, they aren’t that deadly?” asked Cally, “They are so attractive.”
“Don’t be fooled by their outward appearance, Cally. They may be pretty, but they are deadly...”
Blake wondered off, leaving Cally to smile mischievously at Avon.
“You wish to make a comment?” Avon asked.
“Now who’s reading minds?”
“I don’t need to read any person’s mind to know what they are thinking.”
“It’s just that that Flower...”
“The Deadly Night Shade...”
”...reminds me of you.”
“In what way?”
“A dark exterior with a surprisingly bright heart, but dangerous to know.”
“Well thank you, Cally....”
“You’re welcome....Blake,” she cried out as she quickly left the computer expert somewhat dumbfounded.

“What have you found now?”
Blake was standing stock still gazing down at a green plant.
“According to the label this is a Venus Fly Trap...and it’s just literally eaten a fly.”
“A carnivorous plant? Whatever next?”
“Look, there’s another insect....”
They both stared at the plant.
Avon joined them.
“Now that reminds me of someone we all know. Lovely to look at, alluring...but with a tendency to eat you alive.”
“Servalan,” Blake murmured.
“Indeed,” Avon replied.
“I think it’s time we left,” Cally said, “Goodness knows what else is lurking in these flower beds.”
“Where’s Vila?” Blake asked.
“He went into one of those...buildings over there,” Cally informed him.
“The Green House,” Avon corrected her.
“Green? But it’s...”
“Hey, look what I found!”
It was Vila, running towards them, his hands holding onto a small pot with a very strange plant in it.
“Can I take this back to the Liberator?”
“What is it?”
“No idea, but the label says its called Audrey.”
Blake’s brows furrowed.
“For some reason that rings a bell...and no, I don’t think we should.”
“But its harmless!¬” implored Vila.
“Yes, “said Avon, “rather like you, but appearances can be deceptive!”
Cold! You don't know the meaning of the word cold!
Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of your window!!
