I wouldn't mind reading the history of how Col Astrid came up with Moloch - the computer he invented - which, it later turns out, had a live entity - 'human' (or possibly chicken) as its starting point.

Yeah, he doesn't come out of this as a nice guy, despite now floating in a jar. Dr. Moreau doing stuff with rats and chickens and the odd cyclops.

They can't make a living copy of a mouse, so how did they produce a live Moloch?

Ok. Frankenstein's monster? The Fly?

How did they identify Tarrant as a starship captain to know to scan him?

Good question.

Vila's helping Servalan. I suppose he's got form after being so willing to join up with Travis in 'Hostage'.

So the troopers dragging away the dead mutoid aren't in anyway loyal to the Supreme Commander/President? It's like Die Hard II etc where the baddie soldier has a whole squad who are willing to follow him into treason and criminal enterprise.

Perhaps they are also ex-criminals from Calchos? The Section-Leader-turned-Commander of the Fifth Legion and his cronies have been eliminating everyone who doesn't agree with them, and replacing them with convicts ferried in from the colony.

That's a great explanation AA.

Tarrant probably told them himself, trying to impress them.

The latter bit seems quite likely, but I'd imagine that they were actually very lower echelon grunts with chips on their shoulders. So unlike the history of the Port Jackson settlement...

I do like that Dayna makes him go first. But I think he was being calculating, not cowardly.

That's what I was thinking. Perhaps Astrid wasn't a nice man at all.

Yes, that's also a great explanation. "I'm a starship captain, but don't tell anyone.... Hello, I'm starship captain, but you mustn't tell anyone.... Good morning, I'm..."

I know Jan Chappell cracked up over Moloch, but PD keeping a straight face in front of Astrid and then declaiming shows great restraint. How many times did they film that?

Maybe Astrid turned himself into Moloch, controlling everything (or so he thought) and the chap in the tank wasn't him, but s one of his assistants he didn't like.

There's only three guards and Avon takes out two of them. What was Dayna doing? She still had her gun, too.

Did Astrid come up with it, though? I think what they say is ambiguous - it is possible that the Sardoans invented the machines and were using them for food etc. on their rather barren planet, and what Astrid did was take over and add the supervisory computer. Moloch also seems rather independent-minded - I think he was likely to be a Sardoan who sold out and betrayed his planet to the 5th Legion, in return for the coveted chance to actually attain the state of genetic perfection his people's computers had predicted.

See - 'Col Astrid, he caused my being'. Astrid must have started with something alive, and probably conscious.

I know why Yoda sounds like Fozzie Bear, but why does Moloch sound the way he does? If this is a prediction how humankind will evolve, are we all going to have an Indian accent in the far future?

Not all that far given their population and rapid economic growth.

My father, blonde hair blue eyes, born and raised in Ceylon, often sounded like Spike Milligan doing Pakky Paddy, more so when facing a nice hot curry.

Oh, I love the idea that Astrid sewed up some dummy as best he could, and Gross and Lector were completely fooled by it. In fact, it reminds me of something in the Goodies...

Apparently, we won’t have to worry. Apparently, AI is going to destroy the human race before 2030.

Probably not humans. We are, after all, parasites and are breeding exponetially. It's everything else on the planet I'm concerned about.

Apparently it's quite hard to do a Welsh accent without it turning Indian.

We let AI buy a robot and a tank, it does exactly what experts warned
