I think these comics are wonderful and especially weaving in many of the Horizon regulars. I'm loving each one! Thanks for making me smile- and more than once!

May I ask a question about the gentleman in the red hat/fez? Is he any relation to the Shop Keeper from Mr Benn? Sorry, he isn't. I don't even know Mr Benn. The bellhop is meant as an homage to Spirou, the favourite comic strip hero of my childhood. May I borrow it in the unlikely event of a book edition? Where do I place my order? Sorry again, with 'unlikely' being the operative word. |

Sorry again, with 'unlikely' being the operative word. Mr Benn was/is a cartoon character from the 70s who would visit a certain costume shop where the shopkeeper would appear and suggest a costume. Mr Benn would try the costume on and then go through a door in the changing room and into an fantastic adventure. My fave was the cave man one where Mr Benn showed the stone age people how to build houses away from the caves in the valley through which dinosaurs would charge along at various times of day. Okay, not exactly historically correct, but great fun and an introduction to sci fi for youngsters. Cold! You don't know the meaning of the word cold! My fave was the cave man one where Mr Benn showed the stone age people how to build houses away from the caves in the valley through which dinosaurs would charge along at various times of day. Okay, not exactly historically correct, but great fun and an introduction to sci fi for youngsters. Thank you for the explanation. I’ve found the series on YT and watched the first episode (Red Knight). I had a little chuckle when at the end of the episode, Mr Benn announces, 'I’ll be back', many years before Avon or even this other guy... whothisname... It’s an interesting concept and reminded me of one of my TV favourites, 'Der Plakatierer' (The Billsticker) from around 1990. Unfortunately, you can’t find any information, videos or pictures about that one online. It is set at an intersection in the middle of nowhere. There is a newsstand (selling magazines from the 1950s), a policeman regulating the nonexistent traffic, and an advertising column. At the beginning of every episode, the billsticker arrives and glues a poster to the column, showing some exotic location, e.g. a castle, an igloo, a spaceship etc., and then the three guys enter the poster. A special gimmick was that all the people they encountered where also played by the three principal actors. They also claimed that they had built all the props themselves. That shows, but in my opinion was a great way to encourage children to creativity, in a Blue Peter way. I was already at university when the series aired but I loved it for its sheer whackiness and surrealism. My nieces, on the other hand, were of the intended age group and could make neither head nor tail of it. |

The next stop after the observatory and the museum was the art gallery. A perfect place to learn more about the values of mankind and to make horrible puns.

Although this reminds me of the time when I was at work and one of the ladies was house hunting. She came across the perfect place; a Shalott Bungalow. So we phoned the estate agent and asked him about his Shalott bungalow...there was a few minutes silence and much sniggering from us ladies...then he realised that one of his Saturday girls had mistakenly typed Shalott instead of Chalet!! So much for auto correct!!! Cold! You don't know the meaning of the word cold! Cold is when you have ice on the INSIDE of your window!! You lot are far too funny. My brothers would be asking why I’m snickering if they weren’t still in bed.

Thank you all for your positive comments! It's good to know I can make people snigger and laugh (or sometimes groan). My brothers would be asking why I’m snickering if they weren’t still in bed. Let me guess, they haven't inherited the maternal retro SF gene? |

Quote Let me guess, they haven't inherited the maternal retro SF gene? Oh, they have, they just always ask what I’m laughing about because I don’t tend laugh out loud unless something is exceptionally amusing. They don’t want to miss out.

Visiting museums or art galleries can be quite overwhelming. Our heroes might go back there for another visit but for now, they call it a day and head back to the hotel. However, on their way back they were reminded of another thing to do:![]() |
