Rewatch Downunder Saturday 23rd December D13 Blake

I soooo like David Collings. Fell for him in Scrooge in 1970. I hope they show it again this Christmas.

He's excellent! It was only this year I realised he was the voice of Monkey in "Monkey", the Buddhist comedy/adventure serial that used to be on the ABC around the same time as Doctor Who and the Goodies.

The sound design is really good in this one. I love the burble-y computer bank noises at the very end. Right now I'm listening to the quiet howling noise inside Scorpio (Engines? Atmosphere?) and the keening pitch of Scorpio as heard from down on the ground.

Now silence, but for Orac and another quiet 'atmosphere' noise in the plantation forest.

It is excellent, and does make such a difference.

Tarrant is starting to catch what the other blokes have. Throwing himself away – or trying to – and becoming cynical because he's lost so much and is weary of it all.
Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Avon has an iPhone.

Blake has an iSteddfod.

Oh really? Only now? I've known for ages. I loved Monkey back in the day and can still sing the theme song. Bunch of tragics, that's what we are.

I would love a full-sized S4 Orac prop. Especially if it made the right noises.

Aaaaaarrrrgh! I told Travisina ages ago that she needs to get hubby onto creating a throwing up emoji.

Vila, Dayna and Soolin have signed up to "Escape to the Country" and are checking out an airy bijou little property.

It was that or me attempt to rewrite Blake's dialogue in really dodgy Welsh,

"Look boyo..."

It's not bad. A bit dark and the bubble wrap is a bit obvious.

Vila asking Avon where Tarrant is - his experience in Orbit showing through.

OOOO. Avon's eyes when he doesn't answer about Tarrant. (completely lost track now. House guest trying to talk to me about a friend who's travelling to Egypt today...)

I think Dayna is the only one not suffering from CPTSD. If she survives it won't be long before she gets it too.

Oh, I have to bail unexpectedly, to drive my daughter somewhere.

I probably won't make it back before the episode finishes, so I will say here and now that the very last Avon moment - where he smiles and grimaces - is just brilliant and blows away any charges that PD can't act.

See you next week for S5 episode 1, when we find out how our heroes got out of the end of series cliffhanger. Can't wait!

Avon can't answer because he doesn't know.

Best time to go to Egypt, especially for the south, Aswan etc.

The series never did make much use of Orac's ability to control any other computer that had Tariel cells. Could have solved most things so easily.

Someone said PD can't act? Heck, I first noticed him because he acted the heck out of the Sheriff of Nottingham back in 1975.

So lovely to have has you here Joe. I need your advice on something and must chat about it soon. Go off and do your fatherly duty and we'll catch up in 2024. Mxx

There are numbers of times where Orac's various abilities could have been put to better use. Like the magic shrinking trick.

Could have made a comedy episode about the time that particular 'trick' malfunctined and they never knew what size it/he was going to be...

Well, thank you for your company. That has cheered me up a lot. Have a great Christmas, both of you, and see you in the new year. We start on January 6th, is that right?

M1795537OCVirn
OK, I need to get cracking. Our family Christmas plans are now in complete chaos because the daughter who was hosting the family party rang yesterday to say she was full of a cold and perhaps w'd better not go there. Great. But amI downhearted? Nope. Somethig will turn up. And I still have most of the cooking to do...

Well, I suppose that's it for another year. It's gone too quickly and not always too well.
Let's hope 2024 is a good one for everyone. Got to put my head to booking flights over there very soon in preparation for Steventon.

Have a great Christmas everyone. When are we back Ms Virn?

As to when we resume... if we wait till January we'll be behind the Northern lot all year, but does that matter? Are we up for the 31st? Or will it be an Epiphany?

As longer as you're not up to your elbows stuffing turkeys. Kids just aren't reliable these days.

Somehow managed to get chocolate near my elbow last night, coating biscuits with it...
