Rewatch Downunder - D9 Sand, Saturday 26th November

Avon's hair is looking much better now that Scorpio has been rocked around a bit.

Pity about the fake sky in the background. The green sand on the hills and rocks actually looks quite good.

I quite like it - it's all rather surreal, and adds to the atmosphere. I don't think it would have worked as well in a buddliea-bedecked quarry.

Spider update - I've found a bottle of White Chestnut essence (Bach flowers) in our first aid drawer. Does anyone thing that would work?

And we get Dayna out of the way. Rather reckless of Tarrant to let her go like that - but very Tarrant, I suppose.

Only Servalan what turn up on a strange planet and go walking across the sand and rocks in an evening gown and high heel shoes.

And without even laddering her stockings. That's Servalan for you.

I'd suggest you show rather more respect, if you don't mind. She can do anything she likes. Not even the clothes or the environment are allowed to touch her. And then there was the sand...

Typical Tanith Lee beginning - offbeat and poetic.

Beautiful and melancholy.

If you like your melancholy green, of course.

Blue is a happy colour. Especially when it's the sea or sky. Or my husband's eyes!

That collar is rather a pity, but I agree about the hair.

I have to confess, I’ve never heard of using white chestnut essence. But that doesn’t mean much because as I said, I just fumigate so really don’t think about alternatives

No idea about the essence. If a house spider likes your house, it's a bit like a House Elf – take care of it.

On the sky, I don't mind it all because it's one of the rare instances where we get a sense of the vastness of space, fake or not.

One begins to wonder what sort of relationships Tanith Lee had been through - her put-downs are amazingly accurate ( of course, it's Servalan saying them, but still...).

Dunno. Just looked her up on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanith_Lee
Haven't got time to read all of it, but she seems to have had a bit of an upheaval childhood + bullying, but was married, so...?

It's a pity he ends the series in one of his less good outfits.

It's a close relative of the suit worn at Forever Avon. You know, Jan Chappell actually photographed me because of it. Grin

And why would the Clonemasters bother to clone Prell? Rather an expensive 'extra' for one episode, isn't it?

But he does get to wearing a very nice jumpsuit in Warlord, Bobbsy Twin-ing with Soolin.

That is typical Tarrant - something making a noise outside the door, so you open the door . . .

Jacqueline obviously liked this scene because she came up with the idea/the girl next door line, but do we have any idea what Steven Pacey thought?

I am torn between feeling that it is a bit arrogant of Tanith Lee to reference her other episode, and liking the fact that someone is mentioning Cally.

It's because at one time they ended up living on houseboats next to each other.

I like it because so rarely is there any mention of previous events. The problem with having different writers who are only interested in their offering. It makes sense for her to hark back to something that would disturb Vila.

Nah, it just smells of the carrier liquid (cheap brandy!). Aromatherapy essence might be better.

'The nastiest part of all...' and Tarrant tries to move in. She however, instantly pulls back. She's over him already. But not quite over Keller. Power isn't just 'like' a drug, it is one.

Nice to see Tarrant thinking for once. It's such a pity he normally regards his brain as for emergency use only.
