Rewatch Downunder: B7 Killer - Saturday 14 May

I agree about the good dialogue. Robert Holmes wrote Gambit as well, which also has some great lines.

I do like the bickering academics here - very lifelike. This would have been a good episode if only it had not just exposed Blake, Avon and Vila to a deadly plague without any explanation of why it didn't affect them.

But this is a good Blake episode (making up for the previous two where he has been both manipulative and stupid) - he has the moral high ground throughout.

Blake is neither manipulative or stupid that’s just Avon trying to deflect the blame from him.

The body is "very old". Yeah, since 1932 when "The Mummy" was made.

Hello everyone. Sorry I'm late - I'm quite a way into the episode, but my internet was playing up again. My holiday has fallen through as the friend I was staying with came into contact with someone with Covid, so I'm here after all. Avon has just met up with Tynus.

Nice to see you, but sorry you're missing your holiday.
Covid ain't going away any time soon. I've got a lot of social plans coming up, so I'm still masking and hand-gelling like mad Sad

I'm not sure whether I did the right thing or not - perhaps i'm being over-cautious, but I didn't want to turn up and find a house full of sick people. I did get the first part of the holiday yesterday - a trip to London to have lunch with some other friends - but I am exhausted today. The train back was delayed by 40 minutes, which was tedious (nb. this happens a lot with British trains).

Ha - me too. Trip to London last Saturday to meet a friend for lunch. Got there okay, but the trains back were cancelled due to shortage of crew. Eventually had to get a slooooooooooooooow stopping one from Moorgate instead of Kings Cross.
Used to have to deal with this sort of thing every day - I'm so relieved that my current job is working from home!

Well, I read recently that now that most people have been getting Covid in one form or another, there's reseach going on as to why some people AREN'T getting it, despite being exposed. Perhaps Avon and Vila are naturally immune?

To me they look bad science fiction. Where medieval or early modern clothing looks silly, it's often because it's the clothing of the upper classes, who don't have to do any physical work in it. These are all working scientists/administrators, and they are in an environment which doesn't give them much opportunity for peacocking - they should be dressing for comfort and convenience.

I hate stopping trains! At least they didn't abandon the seat reservations on mine, which they did on the Leeds train leaving at the same time. But there was a whole queue of delayed trains, so we crawled along nose to tail all the way to York, sadly. But yes, at one point I was commuting from Cambridge to London every day, and if anything went wrong it was complete chaos.

All of them. Some better/worse than others, though. But eye-wateringly expensive, eg for some routes it's cheaper to fly than get the train! Where are you going to be based?

I’m still working on where I’ll be based and how long I’ll be there. I would really just like to do some tripping around. Ideally I’d like to hire a car. But I think that might be a bit beyond my budget. But it sounds like trains are not the way to go either. :-(
