Rewatch Downunder Saturday 12th September C11 Moloch

Gross and Lecherous... er, I mean Grose and Lector.

Loving what they've done to Servalan's hair. Looks longer on the top of her head. And very shiny.

They mentioned a Colonel. I wonder if he's got a bucket of chicken with him.

Morning everyone. I've been watching for a bit while eating breakfast. One thing I didn't notice before was Tarrant asking Avon's opinion about whether they should turn back or not - he's getting acclimatized.

Hi AnneA. All well with you?

I think Tarrant, after asking, thinks he can now do ask he likes. Witness, his treatment of Vila. Head Bully.

There you are AA. I hope you are well.

I'm fine, thank you. I'm sorry to hear about your operation - I hope it goes well.

It's the Federation training kicking in.

No ordinary planet? Why does it look like Betchworth Quarry then? Grin

The Buddleia did very well during summer. Mine has just been pruned.

The Tuesday bunch characterised this as a 'comedy' episode. Not sure the sexism is as funny as all that. But their claim emphasises just how brilliant the Servalan-Vila bit is.

I think it's meant to. That and the offscreen slap Chesil receives, not to mention Doran's crowning comment about not liking women.

It's a Ben Steed special - what did you expect?

Yes, but it's not approved as right. Witness (e.g.) Vila's reaction to Doran's comment. It's all meant to show the Fifth Legion are beyond the pale. More Federation rottenness.

I was just thinking exactly the same thing. If it was a magic trick, you'd have to show the second box was empty before you started.

The sexisim is still alive and well and quite typical of our society, now and then. Again, Ben Steed does some really challenging things which are a commentary on society at the time. Now we have the Manosphere.

Servalan isn't the baddie this time. She's quite critical of this nice little boyzone, for operational reasons of course.

I wouldn't mind reading the history of how Col Astrid came up with Moloch - the computer he invented - which, it later turns out, had a live entity - 'human' (or possibly chicken) as its starting point.

One of mine died in all the rains last winter and the other one nearly did. It recovered a bit this summer, but it still rather sickly. It also seems to have some kind of virus.

So the troopers dragging away the dead mutoid aren't in anyway loyal to the Supreme Commander/President? It's like Die Hard II etc where the baddie soldier has a whole squad who are willing to follow him into treason and criminal enterprise.

How did they identify Tarrant as a starship captain to know to scan him?

Yeah, he doesn't come out of this as a nice guy, despite now floating in a jar. Dr. Moreau doing stuff with rats and chickens and the odd cyclops.

Did Servalan just say "This planet will be blorsted..."?

I can't wait until the Blu-rays replace the Colonel Astrid dummy so it actually looks like a person. It's ridiculous when Avon stands looking at it.

Tarrant probably told them himself, trying to impress them.

They can't make a living copy of a mouse, so how did they produce a live Moloch?

Perhaps they are also ex-criminals from Calchos? The Section-Leader-turned-Commander of the Fifth Legion and his cronies have been eliminating everyone who doesn't agree with them, and replacing them with convicts ferried in from the colony.

Dayna’s not stupid. Avon (is being a coward) and indicates for her to go through the door first. But she’s not that silly. LOL

The latter bit seems quite likely, but I'd imagine that they were actually very lower echelon grunts with chips on their shoulders. So unlike the history of the Port Jackson settlement...

Yes, that's also a great explanation. "I'm a starship captain, but don't tell anyone.... Hello, I'm starship captain, but you mustn't tell anyone.... Good morning, I'm..."
