Hello everyone - late as usual, sorry. I was meant to be going to Edinburgh to see my mother today, but there's a rail strike, so I'm going on Tuesday instead.

Hi AnneA. STILL having rail strikes there. What fun.

Rail strikes, doctors' strikes, teachers' strikes - everyone is on strike.

Poor you. Sounds hideous.

I have a couple of friends who are waiting for fairly urgent operations, so yes, I am worried.

I don’t know, the fact only outfit I really like is Dayna’s.

Don't think the others have discovered where she hid the iron.

It's raw silk. It's meant to look crushed.

What, Dayna's? Don't make me laugh. The BBC budget isn't up to silk, raw or otherwise. Also, I didn't say she used the iron, just that she hid it so that the others looked scruffy.

Sorry, but Vila and Tarrant are both wearing silk. Dayna is probably wearing linen or a linen-cotton blend. And at that time they were VERY affordable.

OK then.

What are doctors striking for? If it were something useful like more funding for more beds or more nurses...

That and more pay. It has been mostly junior doctors, but consultants are now striking as well.

Do you read Lindsey Davis? Her Falco books bring the Roman Empire to life very nicely, including all the tapas bar equivalents. A colleague who're been working in the UK – Leicester U – for a few years now, is a Pompeii specialist.
