One begins to wonder what sort of relationships Tanith Lee had been through - her put-downs are amazingly accurate ( of course, it's Servalan saying them, but still...).
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

Pity about the fake sky in the background. The green sand on the hills and rocks actually look quite good. Agreed, they're quite impressive. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

The sand is a wonderfully effective alien - very creepy, and an easy special effect to do. |

The business aboard Scorpio is very much secondary in this story - just there to prepare a way of getting Servalan out of a nasty fix, in fact.

I'm wondering if Prell has been reprogrammed to reappear here as Servie's assistant. His younger brother? |

Servalan deals with Reeve very well. He just isn't a threat, no matter how much he wants to be. |

Only Servalan would turn up on a strange planet and go walking across the sand and rocks in an evening gown and high heel shoes.

Only Servalan what turn up on a strange planet and go walking across the sand and rocks in an evening gown and high heel shoes. And without even laddering her stockings. That's Servalan for you. |

Servalan deals with Reeve very well. He just isn't a threat, no matter how much he wants to be. Reeve is a subordinate, and therefore expendable. Subordinates aren't worth the effort. Unless they're interesting, like Travis. And even he wasn't quite interesting enough. They're there to be used, that's all. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Pity about the fake sky in the background. The green sand on the hills and rocks actually looks quite good. I quite like it - it's all rather surreal, and adds to the atmosphere. I don't think it would have worked as well in a buddliea-bedecked quarry. Spider update - I've found a bottle of White Chestnut essence (Bach flowers) in our first aid drawer. Does anyone thing that would work? There is no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

And we get Dayna out of the way. Rather reckless of Tarrant to let her go like that - but very Tarrant, I suppose. |

I'd suggest you show rather more respect, if you don't mind. She can do anything she likes. Not even the clothes or the environment are allowed to touch her. And then there was the sand... "You're not sulking, I hope?"

Typical Tanith Lee beginning - offbeat and poetic. Beautiful and melancholy. If you like your melancholy green, of course. Blue is a happy colour. Especially when it's the sea or sky. Or my husband's eyes! There is no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

Does anyone thing that would work? I have to confess, I’ve never heard of using white chestnut essence. But that doesn’t mean much because as I said, I just fumigate so really don’t think about alternatives |

Does anyone thing that would work? No idea about the essence. If a house spider likes your house, it's a bit like a House Elf – take care of it. On the sky, I don't mind it all because it's one of the rare instances where we get a sense of the vastness of space, fake or not. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Just looked her up on Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanith_Lee Haven't got time to read all of it, but she seems to have had a bit of an upheaval childhood + bullying, but was married, so...?
