Hello. Started. Interesting that Servalan thinks that Tarrant is in charge - bias in favour of Space Command?

There are suggestions that the original plan was that Tarrant stayed loyal to the Federation, then once the crew trusted him, he would betray them at some stage.

You would need a different Tarrant for that, I think.

I think Avon decided to stay well out of it, let Tarrant make a fool of himself so that there was an excuse to make snide comments about him.

Apart from Dayna, the crew are all in shades of 70s brown this week.

Yes, I was peering at that. The frock seems to button up the side which is a bit interesting.

Where else would you button it up?

Invisible zip? Hi AnneA. All well with you?

OK. Busy applying for a job, and preparing for my summer school next week. I'll have to miss next week's rewatch. City at the End of the World is one of my half-dozen or so favourite episodes, so I'm sorry about that. I would far rather miss this one - I find Jarvik tedious and the spider laughable. Passive-aggressive Avon is interesting, though - I would like to have known what went on between Volcano and now to bring crew relations to this state.

Is this the job you were talking about before? Job applications are something I'm very glad I don't have to do anymore, although several of the jobs I had were all based on recommendation for same (thank goodness!). Good luck with it. I don't envy you.

As for the ep, Avon is far more ADHD hyper-focussed than passive aggressive. I recognise the behaviour only too well.Smile

I don't see Avon as indifferent, I see him as angry. Tarrant has (temporarily) got the Liberator - Avon wants it back.

Yes, that's what he's doing. It's the older and wiser versus the young and brash. But it does make you wonder what happened previously to bring Tarrant to the fore now. Or maybe he's just being given enough rope with which to prove himself.Wink

No, I don't see Avon as angry. Tarrant is being tested for his own good. He thinks he's hot and he's being given the chance to prove it – or not.

I used to get a lot of jobs through recommendation, but the person who recommended me very sadly dies a few years ago - that is part of the problem. This is a different job, at Aberystwyth - I wasn't shortlisted for the Durham one. At least the application process is easier for this one.

I don't really know much about ADHD, so if you say that Avon's behaviour is typical, then I suppose it is. But to me it seems like scheming - he is interested in the Sopron, but I see his obsessiveness as performative, and aimed at Tarrant. He is delighted when it gets to the point where he can say 'I told you so', because that is what he was aiming at.

He's giving Tarrant enough rope to just about hang himself. Avon's comment about Tarrant being the "most astute etc., etc., or so you tell us often enough", is the guide to what's going on.

Yes, that's what I think. If there is a flaw in this, it is that he clearly thinks that the Liberator is more-or-less indestructible, and his removing Cally from the flight deck in the middle of a battle will do no harm. This confidence will be his (and the Liberator's) undoing in Terminal.

Rats about that Durham job. That would have been good. I don't know what Aberystwyth is like. Lampeter, yes.
And yes, Avon is waiting for an "I told you so" moment; it's almost a fait accompli, but he's also hyper-focussed in such a way that seems antisocial.

It might be the Liberator on which he's betting, but I rather think he's relying on the Sopron because he has his suspicions/hypothesis about it (the reason why he went to get it in the first place) and only needs to test it out. It is rather cruel of him to let things get as far as they do in order to do so.

I like Servalan's cunning psychological attack on Jarvik. He really should have told her that her 'champion' plan was stupid and laughed in her face.

Yep, Avon's just sick of hearing Tarrant. And VIla, and he thinks Dayna's too young/reckless to bother with. He still has time for Cally, because he needs an audience.
