Hi everyone, are you all well?

Hi Tyce. Ready to roll. How are you this week?

I’m good thanks, flat out busy, but good.

What are you up to? ABBA stuff? How's the knee?

Knee is good, thank goodness. Been taking lots of anti-inflammatories and have had it strapped up.

I’m recording about 20 radio shows. Partly just to get ahead, and partly because if I’m coming to the UK again, I need to have shows that can be played while I’m away.

Also I tried to mow my (rather large$ lawn and my lawnmower broke down. So I’ve been running around all the lawnmowing shops, trying to find a good quality one to buy to replace it.

Glad to hear about the knee. Hope you find a good lawnmower soon.

I've been getting a new laptop this week, so if all goes well I will be watching on it next week. I've been finding it surprisingly hard, as all my previous laptops have been bought for me for one project or another - but hopefully it will be foolproof enough.

So annoying when major items like that go.

Good to hear that the knee is ok. Is the swelling going down at all?

Yep, swelling is almost gone. :-)

Hi, Anne. Sorted your lessons out yet?

Rather better this week, thank you - the assignments turned out to be quite well done when I marked them on Thursday, and the students were reassured that, on this showing, they would have passed the exam. But the two students I am really worried about weren't there - one was ill, but the other seems to have just dropped out, which is worrying.

Old French is such a niche speciality that it doesn't apply, fortunately. The funding threshold is calculated on the MA as a whole.

Counting is hard. I was once asked to count down from 8, and missed out 7. My friend/teacher told me to do it again, and I did. 8,6,5,4,3,2,1.

Universities here are all about getting everyone over the line. I failed students but other people I know were told they had to pass them even after continued plagiarism etc. I lost faith in the entire system at that stage.

I teach Old French language to MA students in Medieval Studies, Medieval Literature and Medieval History. It's one of a number of language options, with Latin, Old English, Old Norse and Arabic.

It's a language spoken and written in the Middle Ages. It's a fairly recent addition, a sign of the university trying to become less Euro-centric.
