Vila being clever. Vila being VERY clever. I love this scene (deciphering the message using ash).
There is no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes

I do hate the costumes though - they look uncomfortable, impractical and silly. Ummm. Could say that about 17th century clothing or, indeed, from many other periods. The costumes look science fiction. Gareth Thomas says B7 is about 'Ordinary people in extraordinary situations' - could be extended to extraordinary costumes as well. I would be disgusted if they were all just wearing late '70s' Levi cord jeans... Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Not long ago our scientists were arguing about whether COVID was airborne - let's just assume any new virus is going to be airborne in future... and someone tell Dr Bellfriar.
"You're not sulking, I hope?"

I'm not sure whether I did the right thing or not - perhaps i'm being over-cautious, but I didn't want to turn up and find a house full of sick people. I did get the first part of the holiday yesterday - a trip to London to have lunch with some other friends - but I am exhausted today. The train back was delayed by 40 minutes, which was tedious (nb. this happens a lot with British trains). Ha - me too. Trip to London last Saturday to meet a friend for lunch. Got there okay, but the trains back were cancelled due to shortage of crew. Eventually had to get a slooooooooooooooow stopping one from Moorgate instead of Kings Cross. Used to have to deal with this sort of thing every day - I'm so relieved that my current job is working from home! PLEASE let the trains be running properly by July, though what both of you say doesn't bode well for train travel for a while yet. Note that Tyce. ![]() Be prepared for at least some disruption on trains. It's the norm, rather than exception. Sigh. Mmm… yeah, I’m taking note. Is it the same with the trains that go across the country i.e. if I want to go to somewhere like Bath. Or just the London trains? |

I do like the bickering academics here - very lifelike. This would have been a good episode if only it had not just exposed Blake, Avon and Vila to a deadly plague without any explanation of why it didn't affect them. Well, I read recently that now that most people have been getting Covid in one form or another, there's reseach going on as to why some people AREN'T getting it, despite being exposed. Perhaps Avon and Vila are naturally immune? Must have read the same thing a few weeks ago about research into natural immunity. Bit like bubonic plague. Apparently if you have type A blood you have a natural immunity. |

I think it's often worse with London trains, because there are so many of them - commuter trains and long-distance. But sadly it happens everywhere. |

At least with Cambridge you have the option of the slightly slower route from Liverpool Street - which was very useful in the weeks after the Hatfield crash. |

But eye-wateringly expensive, eg for some routes it's cheaper to fly than get the train! Where are you going to be based? I’m still working on where I’ll be based and how long I’ll be there. I would really just like to do some tripping around. Ideally I’d like to hire a car. But I think that might be a bit beyond my budget. But it sounds like trains are not the way to go either. :-( I've heard that coaches can be pretty good. Oh that’s interesting. Any particular coach companies I should Google? |

I do like the bickering academics here - very lifelike. This would have been a good episode if only it had not just exposed Blake, Avon and Vila to a deadly plague without any explanation of why it didn't affect them. Well, I read recently that now that most people have been getting Covid in one form or another, there's reseach going on as to why some people AREN'T getting it, despite being exposed. Perhaps Avon and Vila are naturally immune? Must have read the same thing a few weeks ago about research into natural immunity. Bit like bubonic plague. Apparently if you have type A blood you have a natural immunity. Aaand we're back to discussing blood types, hurrah! My blood type (O) is more tasty to mosquitoes than A, which is why they ignore my brother and feast on me. Sorry guys. There's a lot of tosh out there about blood types. You're more likely to smell attractive. Mosquitos like perfumed skin or a particularly luscious skin odour and they are attracted to dark-coloured clothing. The smell of your sweat might be nice, for example. I'm an A-secreter and they love me. Info provided by my medical entomologist (mosquito-borne diseases) sister-in-law. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

Mosquitoes? Here it's midges - they've just hatched out - and there's no vaccine against them. Bring Skin-so-soft or Jungle Formula, Tyce. Hope you all have a good week. Thanks for the company. Where are all those holiday photos, Obsidian? Good to have you back. Now wash your hands. "You're not sulking, I hope?"
