Why is this your favourite ep? Just because Vila has some good lines?

I like the cut from people in beetle capes to a close-up of locusts. I wonder if that was scripted, or if the director thought it would be a neat idea!

It's very clever. The vinyl souq made great sales the day the costume department was shopping for this ep.

Going off topic slightly, but my editing brain loves spotting clever cuts. Used to try to emulate them, back in the day.

I can imagine you sitting back enjoying a good editing cut.

Very good Vila dialogue in this. So nice to see him being witty and clever, rather than stupid/extra stupid.

Lots of good lines from everyone, including Dr. Bellfriar. Good actors, lots of back history, excellent costumes (though they must have been sweaty), good editing Wink tick, tick, tick.

Hello everyone. Sorry I'm late - I'm quite a way into the episode, but my internet was playing up again. My holiday has fallen through as the friend I was staying with came into contact with someone with Covid, so I'm here after all. Avon has just met up with Tynus.

Oh yes. Have you seen 'The Stuntman'? 1980 movie, stars Peter O'Toole. Some of my fave editing and clever clever cuts. And a fun theme tune.
Oh, wow wow wow - it's on YouTube! The whole movie! That's my evening sorted.

Unlike everyone else, this is absolutely my least favourite episode of Blakes 7, but with all these rewatches it is growing on me

Covid ain't going away any time soon. I've got a lot of social plans coming up, so I'm still masking and hand-gelling like mad Sad

But this is a good Blake episode (making up for the previous two where he has been both manipulative and stupid) - he has the moral high ground throughout.

I'm not sure whether I did the right thing or not - perhaps i'm being over-cautious, but I didn't want to turn up and find a house full of sick people. I did get the first part of the holiday yesterday - a trip to London to have lunch with some other friends - but I am exhausted today. The train back was delayed by 40 minutes, which was tedious (nb. this happens a lot with British trains).

His quips are beautifully written and very smoothly played by Paul Daneman.
Very natural interactions.

I agree about the good dialogue. Robert Holmes wrote Gambit as well, which also has some great lines.

I do like the bickering academics here - very lifelike. This would have been a good episode if only it had not just exposed Blake, Avon and Vila to a deadly plague without any explanation of why it didn't affect them.

Blake is neither manipulative or stupid that’s just Avon trying to deflect the blame from him.

Ha - me too. Trip to London last Saturday to meet a friend for lunch. Got there okay, but the trains back were cancelled due to shortage of crew. Eventually had to get a slooooooooooooooow stopping one from Moorgate instead of Kings Cross.
Used to have to deal with this sort of thing every day - I'm so relieved that my current job is working from home!

Well, I read recently that now that most people have been getting Covid in one form or another, there's reseach going on as to why some people AREN'T getting it, despite being exposed. Perhaps Avon and Vila are naturally immune?

To me they look bad science fiction. Where medieval or early modern clothing looks silly, it's often because it's the clothing of the upper classes, who don't have to do any physical work in it. These are all working scientists/administrators, and they are in an environment which doesn't give them much opportunity for peacocking - they should be dressing for comfort and convenience.

Gareth Thomas says B7 is about 'Ordinary people in extraordinary situations' - could be extended to extraordinary costumes as well.

Be prepared for at least some disruption on trains. It's the norm, rather than exception. Sigh.
