The Madman listing has been restored. (here), indicating the Australian release will retail for $69.99.

Excellent. Though obviously thanks to their earlier leaking of their listing we did know it was coming. Glad for all you antipodean folks, anyway. Wink

My initial payment actually failed when I used Diane's code....so I emailed HMV and they sent me a new code and it worked!!!
Yay!!
Now I need a Blu Ray player...........

Can I just ask what may be an obvious question: is this release going to work on Australian region DVD players or do we have to wait for a local release here?

Looking at the listings, the discs are Region B which includes Australia.

I can't seem to get any link at all for 'referred by a friend' per the instructions. Did you just email HMV to explain that this was the referral that you were trying to use, and they sent you a code to make it work?

I'm definitely pre-ordering the box set either way, just trying to get in on the offer if I can...

I found Diane's link on Facebook. Pressed that, went to HMV. Up came Refer a friend i.e. Diane . Put in my Email and up came the code. Copied it. got to checkout, put code in then got the 20% off. Oh fab, thought I. Went to pay. Even had a text from my bank!! Then it said Unable to process payment. (I think I mucked up my email address). Tried again, but it said the code was invalid. Even tried using a different computer and email and it kept on saying 'we will email you later'. Never did. So I emailed HMV and explain the situation. They got back to me in 24 hours with the new code. But I had used Diane's link.

The Radio Times excerpts are 14 cast lists (including the Christmas 1978 repeat), a few separate photos, the big three-page launch article and three lots of letters.

The link hasn't worked for me either - I got the same message as above. I will probably still buy it eventually but it would be nice to get the discount!

I've had the confirmation that Sue did manage to use my link for the discount so maybe the best way is to do what she did, email them and say you've got a 20% off code from the referral link of Diane Gies but having problems getting it to work and hopefully they will sort it out so you (and anyone else having problems) do get to save £8

Good suggestion! Hopefully that will work...Thanks Smile

Discount code aside, which hasn’t worked for me either, where are people preordering from, HMV or Amazon? I’ve not used HMV online before but did a little google search and some were saying HMV tend to send out preorders earlier than Amazon, so more chance of receiving on or even before release day. Can anyone confirm this has been their experiece? Also, what is HMV packing like?

NerdyTeenGirl
I’m so happy they’re releasing in the US. It will be nice to use a quality player instead of my clunky region-free one!
Don’t be sorry. Be quiet.

I've contacted them with words to this effect using their online contact form, and said I'm happy to preorder with them and cancel my order with their competitor, if they reply to make this work. Fingers crossed...

Hi, this is the response I've had from HMV re the discount code -

Please be advised that this referral is currently on hold awaiting approval as your friend has referred over 10 people in the past month which raises suspicion in the system as customers may not refer more than 25 people per 12 month

Rewards will be cumulative and so if multiple qualifying referrals are made to hmv.com, multiple rewards will be delivered to the referrer, subject to a
limit. A Referrer may not earn more than 5 within any 24 hour period or 25 within last 12 months or 1500 GBP of reward
value within last 12 months. A Referrer
should not expect their referred friends to be given rewards automatically if they are referring more frequently than 5 friends within any 24 hour period or 10 friends within a month or 25 friends
within any 12 month period.
Once the referral has been approved, you'll receive an email with your 20% discount code. This may take some time to clear through

Hope this helps and please feel free to get back in touch.

Update; this worked, HMV contacted me with a 20% of your first purchase code, and I used it.

I could have bought more stuff and got money off that too!

Got mine on pre order at last with HMV and strangely Diane’s discount code finally worked for me.

Had tried several times and waited 3 weeks for the promised email from HMV which never materialised. So I tried to use another introduction code from someone else, but it wouldn’t accept as apparently I’d already had a code from Diane, which I hadn’t?! So I tried the original link again and got a code straightaway this time which worked! All very strange but very happy to get that 20% off in the end, thank you Diane for sharing!

I've had notifications from HMV that 4 'new' people have used my code (well done guys) - possibly too many were trying it at once and they may have thought I'd been spamming. Now it's October it may have re-set. Glad to see it's working for some of you, anyway - every little helps, as they say

Australia does have its own release, and the release date is 20th November. I believe they are taking pre-orders now

It’s available for preorder in Australia from JB HiFi.
Elegant, my friend. Simply elegant.

I don’t suppose there is any information on whether the remastered episodes will be available to watch/purchase on any streaming service (Prime/iPlayer/iTunes etc) is there?

Not long to go now! Smile

Thanks…

This short video here shows how some of the S1 film inserts were incorrect on the DVD releases. The good news is they are now corrected for the Blu-ray collection.

The TNG remasters are best ever done but the UK folk doing the Dr Who and B7 remasters are not far behind. Wow, what attention to detail

I’ve been waiting such a very long time for this one!

I ordered my copy from Rarewaves.

Being in Australia, I still have to wait about 10 days for it to arrive.

SupremeCommanderDiane
I got mine on Tuesday. I'd post a picture but I've yet to figure out how to put pictures into forum posts (on my own website - yes I know, how pathetic is that?) I haven't had a chance to watch anything yet but intending to start with the Stephen Greif documentary. Grin

Greeba
Been charged by HMV for mine, so I assume it’s coming soon Smile

pbgroover
Still waiting to hear mine has been shipped, where did you guys order from to get so early?

EagleTen
I’m surprised that as of now (approaching midnight on Friday), I haven’t had word of my HMV order shipping yet!

Normally, my HMV orders (for Monday release) have always shipped by the previous Thursday…it’s now looking like I may not even get my copy on Monday, which will be a tragedy! Sad

Mine arrived today. So far I’ve binged the first three episodes. You’re in for a treat guys, the picture quality is so much better than the ropy DVD release.

The film inserts look amazing!

Finally just got my shipped email from HMV…maybe a chance of it arriving on Monday…Standard by Nine, Zen…

Confirmed…

pbgroover
Got my shipped email from HMV today too, arrival within next 2-5 working days so hopefully next week sometime… looks like I backed the wrong horse this time

Thanks for sharing Steve, the unboxing videos on YT look amazing, the artwork and booklet, a lot of TLC has obviously gone into this, can’t wait for mine to arrive…

How do the new FX look like in the context of an episode?

I’m four episodes in now and I can say the effects look really good. They are sympathetic to the period, although very HD. This isn’t a negative comment though, they look beautiful, but can be slightly jarring in context, the same way they can sometimes be on the earlier releases in the Dr Who range.

I do a fair bit of amateur effects work in my spare time. I’m by no means as talented as the team behind these, but if it was me I’d probably have taken the resolution down to SD, then upscaled to make it look more sympathetic to the surrounding VT footage, or I’d have put a film grain filter over the new footage and made them look like film inserts.

But this is just my personal taste and I don’t want to detract from the excellent work that’s gone into this. They really do look fantastic as is!

The quality of the restoration is first class. The episodes have never looked or sounded better than this.

Roll on series 2 (or B!)
