Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (1956)
OneSparePart
When? Thursday 23rd May at 7.45pm
What are we watching?
The original film, not the 1978 version. Both are great films. If you haven't seen either, watch both!

This version was directed by Don Siegel most well known for his work with Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry, Coogan's Bluff etc). The star of this version,Kevin McCarthy, makes a brilliant cameo appearance in the remake. This is one of those films that is said to reflect the fears of communists/invasion that gripped America in the 1950s. As usual, I'm just watching the story unfold.
It's based on a novel by Jack Finney which is a book that you want to read in one sitting. Hopefully, you will find the film just as thrilling.

This is all a bit boring and lonely so far. Hope things are going to improve.

My nemesis! Or something like that. How's your father? For that matter, how's the library?

Dad's fed up. They won't let him out of hospital yet. But he's getting closer to being released back to the wild.

That sounds as if he's feeling a bit better, then. Good to hear. Right. Invasive plants tonight, then? Any of them h-o-l-l-y-h-o-c-k-x?

This is something I would not normally want to watch at all. I am hoping it's not too much of a horror film!

Depends what you mean by horror. What happens is horrific but you can say that about most sf films

I was just about to post that!

And yes, English today, so the entire year 11 sitting it - lots of work for a part-time invigilator.

M1795537OCVirn
Well at least it's an honest American film set in America, rather than uprooting it from somewhere else.

One of my cadets was involved - as a victim - not at your location though.

Scaring Americans in their homes. Nothing more frightening.

Invigilating turned out to be less strict for some of my exams as an adult. In one, the invigilator fell asleep for most of it. In another, he said 'I hope nobody is going to want anything, because I'm trying to revise.'

I'm with Tommy. Kids are always right.

You're probably not old enough to have your own.

Really? Come on - we Brits scare them by using cutlery properly.

Lol for 2 reasons. 1st of all, I was a bit scared you were brigadier lethbridge-stewart (mrs) and 2ndly cos my chances of having my own cadets disappeared long long ago.

It is so much stricter than the invigilating for university exams. I was sorry today for two Ukrainian boys who turned up with dictionaries, which they are allowed for some exams, but not this one.

Hope your cadet didn't find it too hard.

Triffids was writ in 1951. This one 1954. Is there a connection?

Well if you believe what the crtics said/say, it was all down to the communist fears that gripped the USA.
