I don't mind it but it's not on any of my favourites lists. I like the concept just not necessarily the execution.

It's trying for a sort of zombie/horror effect, but it doesn't really work because the robot is so ridiculous. And because it's so ridiculous, the idea that it represents some sort of all-powerful AI doesn't work either.

Those helmets are a bit rubbish.

And there was me liking the Dan Dare-ishness of them.

It's not the style, more the fact that they are visibly falling off a lot of the time.

At this stage they also don't join to the suits either, which means no protection at all and is why they fall off. By the time Zeeona wears one, they are joined.

Well of course Blake's 7 heroes laugh at danger and don't need proper helmets. They are immortals, as we are curerntly proving.

Mwahahaha!

I'm generally pretty immune to dodgy effects, but this is one case where, for me, they really spoil the story.

Avon up a power pole is kinda funny to this daughter of an electrical engineer. And, I should add, grand-daughter of an electrical engineer. My father would have had a laugh over this power plant bit.

Certainly not my favourite episode but I hate Animals more that’s any consolation.

Also as Obsidian said, Soolin’s role is great. In fact, I also like the interaction between her and Vila, particularly when she asks “Is this a private game or can anyone play?” LOL

M1795537OCVirn
With the AI conference happening in the UK right now, this episode does make the dangers of creating something we can't control evident! As if Mary Shelley wasn't enough.

They get the BEST lines. Except for Orac's parting shot, of course.

It's the slow pace that makes it ridiculous.

It's what I love about it. The laissez faire attitude. Gives me a good laugh every time. Dad would have loved it too. We saw endless films about power lines being strung out across countries when we were kids.

There's no Blake's 7 episode that doesn't have something to enjoy in it.

Nah - he'd make everyone else do it. Soolin would refuse point-blank, Tarrant would slope off for a quick ciggy behind the buddleia, Dayna would start out thinking it mattered, then join Tarrant, leaving Vila to do the job. Vila wouldn't admit he found the cutters, but shoved them in his big orange tool box, thinking he'd won.

It would take too long to explain all the in-jokes that make it appropriate. Unless he watches the rewatches...

That was fun! Next week we have Avon as Servalan's personal slave, and a rather over-complicated assassination plot.

Oh, I don't think so. He wouldn't need much preamble and it doesn't have to relate directly to this episode. Just the vision of Tarrant doing something like that would probably give him a laugh.

Take care, all of you. See you next time!

This is also the end of the 'search for scientists' part of series 4, and next week is the beginning of the 'love-sick Tarrant' part.

Servalan LOVES over-complicated plots. Spends weeks devising them, sniggering to herself, while slugging back the champagne.
