 45th Anniversary rewatch - C7 Children Of Auron

The episode: Colin Seven – Children Of Auron (Carry On Up The Space Maternity Ward) The date: Tuesday, August 15th, 2023 The time: 7.45pm UK time In which Servalan has realised that she’s not going to get babies from Avon (too grumpy) or Jarvik (too dead), so decides that to order up a dozen clone babies from Auron; we meet one of Cally’s clone sisters – the rather wet Zelda; the two senior members of Servie’s crew spend the whole episode in-fighting, which is not a good idea when Servie has you marked with her own mini-IMIPAK device; and we discover that Pilot Four-Zero is not keen on Ambrosia Custard. Episode in a word: Genocide. Character to cheer: I think I need my head examining, but I’m going for Servie. This is HER episode, which she generously allows the Libby crew to be in as well. Yes, she proves here that she’s a total psychopath and the ends ALWAYS justify whatever the means in her book, even if it means infecting the whole of Auron with a bad batch of custard, just so that she can have babies and have an outside chance of capturing the Liberator. But at least she’s stylish whilst she’s doing it. Characters to boo: Avon for cracking a joke, and the rest of the crew for laughing at it, while Cally is crying herself to sleep in her cabin after Servie’s mass murder of her people. Is Soolin looking lovely this week?: Yes. Recognisable Face: Michael Troughton (the ill-fated Pilot Four-Zero) has a very wide resume, as well as being the son of Doctor Who. I always recognise him as Piers Fletcher-Dervish, the sidekick of Rik Mayall’s sadistic Alan B’Stard in the New Statesman. Best line: “I want that pilot alive. Alive and vulnerable.” Blake's 7 will return in… Carry On Killing Squirrels Vote Og.

It's funny, talking with Michael Troughton in 2013, I brought up his guest appearance in Blake's 7 and he laughed and regaled us with a story of him shooting the Auron pilot scenes, being laid back in a seat for hours and his back hurting, but he got the biggest charge out of the costume he had on, which he said, featured a toilet seat around his neck. He was so great to talk with and I am looking forward to seeing him again at this year's TARDIS con in late November- - along with seeing Colin Baker again.. Must tell him how much we loved his reprisal as Bayban! Lucky us!!

' The fact that sh'e wearing black even before the 'offspring' die gives the lie to those who claim she wears black in mourning. It's jut that black looks cool. And she's President now, sort of, so persumably she doesn't feel the need to maintain the innocent look that fooled so many during her rise to power.. Anyway - onwards! "You're not sulking, I hope?"
