 45th Anniversary rewatch - A7 Mission To Destiny

The episode: Albert Seven – Mission To Destiny (Carry On Space Poirot) The date: Tuesday, February 14th, 2023 The time: 7.45pm UK time In which Avon and Cally find out whodunit, and Stuart Fell lives up to his name (PS if anyone wants to find out how the murderer got Stuart Fell onto the top of the cupboard, I’ll explain later). Meanwhile, Blake goes on a trip that takes four days one way and five minutes to return. Maybe Jenna is the same as Holly and doesn’t know how to navigate the ship and is going around in big circles (obligatory Red Dwarf reference). Episode in a word: 54124. Character to cheer: Space Poirot, of course. Although he’s the one who misreads it in the first place as 5-4-1-2-4 when it blatantly says S-A-R-A. And he also reveals the murderer with his back turned to her, so that she can pull a gun. So, Space Poirot, 9/10 for style, but 1/10 for execution. Character to boo: Blake - for being judge, jury and executioner in the final scene. Is Soolin looking lovely this week?: Yes. Recognisable Face: Brian Hopwood (Rafford) was nice Mr Hopwood in Grange Hill. He also played a nasty murderer in Coronation Street. He only lasts one scene in this episode, before writing S-A-R-A using his own blood as he dies. Who would do that? Someone who badly needed a pen (additional Red Dwarf reference). Best exchange: It’s gotta be: CALLY: “My people have a saying, a man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.” AVON: “Life expectancy must be fairly short among your people.” Blake's 7 will return in... Carry On Throwing Nuts. Vote Og.

I realise that there is always great confusion about which episode we are going to watch, when it comes to Mission To Destiny, because there are several other episodes with very similar names. To clarify, we are not watching any of the following B7 episodes: Mission To Dentistry: Blake develops really bad toothache and is in an even worse mood than usual. But a trip to the dentist can cause problems… especially when the dentist is a big fan of Travis. Mission To Dysentery: Fending off ten Federation Pursuit ships simultaneously is never easy. But it’s even more difficult when the crew have diarrhoea, thanks to Cally undercooking her Auron Veggie Chilli Burgers. Missionary Position on Destiny: A Season C story. The Ultra recapture Dayna and Tarrant, and want yet more information on the human bonding ceremony (this story is banned in many countries due to its explicit content). Mission To Dynasty: Servalan and Alexis Colby both have problems with blokes called Blake… so they decide to pool their resources and also their shoulder pads. Mission To Destiny Of The Daleks: A Blake’s 7 / Doctor Who crossover episode, starring Gareth Thomas as Blake, Paul Darrow as Avon, Tom Baker as the Doctor, David Gooderson as Davros and Tom Chadbon as the naked, bound prisoner. We are NOT watching any of the above five episodes, which all have to wait for another time. However, we are watching: Mission To Destiny: Avon and Cally solve a murder mystery on the Ortega, Blake goes off on a wild goose chase and then takes 5 minutes to do a journey which took 100 hours going the other way, and Travis does… well, nothing because he’s not in this episode. Thankfully we will be watching one of my faves (although the other ones look interesting!). There is soooo much to look out for; For instance...a certain kind and caring chap called Avon wearing a wedding ring in one scene (much like David McCallum in the Man From Uncle) and it seems that both had forgotten to remove the item at the time. Whereas Mr D righted the problem (much to the relief of us Avon Ladies) Mr M decided to leave his on to keep everyone guessing about Illya's marital status. Then we have Mr Thomas wrecking the set as a knob falls off (rather like that infamous blooper from Aftermath). And of course our noble Mr D continues a scene despite being knocked on the chin by his gun as it is handed to Blake. Then we have Mr Wonky eye trying to chat Cally up...at least he noticed that Cally was attractive! Then we have Ms Levett definitely eyeing up that nice kind and caring chap called Avon. I'm trying to find my copy of Liberation to see if there is any mention of that! And we also have that very contentious moment when our kind and caring Avon stops being kind and caring and wallops 54124. AS Mr D has pointed out, Avon treats men and women equally...if they are out to kill him or pose a threat then Wham!!! Anyway, I love this episode...just in case you hadn't noticed....

Ah, found my description of the fabled Time Squid: A4a: TIME SQUID SELECTED DIALOGUE: KROLL: “Give us the Liberator.” BLAKE: “Never.” DESPAIR SQUID: “Then we still destroy you.” AVON: [Mimicking Tarzan, as he swings onto Kroll’s back] “AAH-AHAHAHH-AHAHAHH!” JENNA: “What’s Avon doing?” CALLY: “He’s throttling Kroll to death with that chain.” JENNA: “But he’s wearing just a pair of black studded underpants.” CALLY: “I know!” VILA: “So, what happened to the Despair Squid?” ZEN: “I took care of that! Limpet mines - there's enough fried Calamari out there to feed the whole of Italy.” LINES OF DIALOGUE: BLAKE 97 JENNA 62 AVON 55 CALLY 40 VILA 38 GAN 29 ZEN 20 KROLL 15 DESPAIR SQUID 12 TEL TARRANT 7 DEL TARON 5 TAL TERRON 5 DEV DARRANT 4 SOOLIN 1 TOTAL 390 ANALYSIS: “Time Squid” is the fabled ‘lost episode’ of B7, transmitted at 2am in the morning due to its explicit content and then deleted from the BBC archives. Some even questioned whether the episode was ever made at all, until Avon’s studded underpants appeared on eBay. Judging from the shooting script, the dialogue is probably the weakest in Season A. However, it does contain many of Gan’s more memorable lines, while Soolin’s single comment of “Can you pass the soap?” is considered one of the greatest pieces of dialogue in B7. Vote Og.

This is not one of my favourites. I like murder mysteries and SF, but I dont think this episode is a good example of either. Also Blake is a bit of a prat. So as I am feeling quite tired I am going to give this one a miss and watch Tv with a beer in hand.
I look behind me, what do I see? A pair of golden wings seem to be attached to me.

This is not one of my favourites. I like murder mysteries and SF, but I dont think this episode is a good example of either. Also Blake is a bit of a prat. So as I am feeling quite tired I am going to give this one a miss and watch Tv with a beer in hand. I love this episode,but it’s so obvious blood writing ,who is the name. I’m shattered,doing this then bed. Going to miss you Lorna I plan to live forever,or die trying.
