Hi, Anne. Sorted your lessons out yet?

Rather better this week, thank you - the assignments turned out to be quite well done when I marked them on Thursday, and the students were reassured that, on this showing, they would have passed the exam. But the two students I am really worried about weren't there - one was ill, but the other seems to have just dropped out, which is worrying.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6??? um one is missing. Six isn’t a very high number to count to, you’d had a thought one of them could’ve counted that high.

Bercol and Rontane are one of the great B7 duos. Grenlee and Forres are, of course, the best.

Old French is such a niche speciality that it doesn't apply, fortunately. The funding threshold is calculated on the MA as a whole.

Counting is hard. I was once asked to count down from 8, and missed out 7. My friend/teacher told me to do it again, and I did. 8,6,5,4,3,2,1.

Universities here are all about getting everyone over the line. I failed students but other people I know were told they had to pass them even after continued plagiarism etc. I lost faith in the entire system at that stage.

I teach Old French language to MA students in Medieval Studies, Medieval Literature and Medieval History. It's one of a number of language options, with Latin, Old English, Old Norse and Arabic.

It's a language spoken and written in the Middle Ages. It's a fairly recent addition, a sign of the university trying to become less Euro-centric.

Telling them that they would have passed seems to have worked - although they must now think that the exams were easier than they previously thought.

I think I remember seeing Star Wars in the summer of 1977 - this was aired in the spring of 1978. How much earlier would it have been filmed?

It's not the usual combination, though. I remember in a Medieval Studies course I did doing an assignment where it was obvious that the only reasonable sources were all in Arabic. Gave me the irrits so much only using secondary sources that I wrote a note saying what a dumb topic it was to set without us having Arabic. Little did I know that I'd be living in the Middle East studying Arabic only a few years later.

So Blake admits that Travis is the better strategist, and leader of men. And possibly a better shot, since Blake didn't kill Travis. Good to know, Blake.

It's not really a combination, though - they're called 'skills modules', and there is also palaeography. You choose two, the ones you think are likely to be most useful for what you are studying. Most people do Latin, few choose, for example, Old French and Old Norse.

Star Wars only opened to limited US theatres in May 1977. I can't find the exact dates for filming B7, but they'd done months of filming before the first ep went to air in Jan 1978.

Servalan's frock doesn't work for me. I like the collar decoration but the under-sleeves are horrible, and the whole thing is too baggy. Don't think Jacs had had much chance to take June H on one side for that 'little talk' at this stage.
