 45th Anniversary rewatch - A1 The Way Back

After a change in programme last week, so that we could remember the brilliant Stephen Greif, it's time to catch up with our rewatch to celebrate 45 years of B7! The episode: Albert One - The Way Back (Carry On Child Molesting) The date: Tuesday, January 10th, 2023 The time: 7.45pm UK time An absolute belter to begin with! Roj Blake finds about his past, while virtually everyone is in on the conspiracy, and almost all of the good guys who you think might become one of "Blake's Seven" end up dead. Terry Nation loved his doom-laden opening episodes! Vila, who plays a very minor role in this episode, provides the only comic relief, and even he's a darker character than in later episodes. Episode in a word: Grim. Character to cheer: Tel Varon is a nice guy, and the only person in the Justice Department who seems to be after proper justice. Guess what happens to him? Character to boo: Morag is only in a couple of scenes, but she's the one who cooks up the way to discredit Blake, by fabricating evidence that he's a child molester. She's probably President by the time of Season Derek. Is Soolin looking lovely this week: Yes. Recognisable Face: Jeremy Wilkin (Dev Tarrant) played a baddie in the Doctor Who serial, "Revenge Of The Cybermen". But there's LOTS of other people in "The Way Back" who are in other stuff. Best line: Not the quote-fest of some subsequent episodes (the strength of this episode is in other areas), so I'll go with: "They didn't give me a choice. I steal things. Compulsive, I'm afraid. I've had my head adjusted by some of the best in the business. But it just won't stay adjusted." Blake’s 7 will return in… Carry On Convict Vote Og.

So, just over 45 years ago my friend Julie popped round with the Xmas Radio Times and showed me the article inside about a new series due to start on Monday, 2nd Jan. 1978. And this double page spread was inside  What is this ship? I wondered. Who are these people? I had to wait almost 2 weeks before those questions were answered. Julie is no longer with us, but if she hadn't thought of me and brought that Radio Times over, I wouldn't be on this forum or met so may lovely people. As it is, that fateful Monday evening arrived and I was hooked. That was 45 years ago...and a soon to be 46 years old Daughter is STILL not happy about me falling in love with this show..... Cold! Well I'm just going to get my tea, biccies and choccie. I wonder what this new series will be like? It's by that bloke Terry Nation so it should be okay. After all he's written for just about every series I have ever watched. Champions, Dept S, Persuaders, The Baron, The Saint. some show called Dr Who... Anyway, I'll just make sure Daughter No 1 is asleep...no she is watching Silent Witness tonight...and she doesn't wish to be reminded about what happened 45 years ago when she no longer had my full attention.......
