Rewatch Downunder - The Way Back, Saturday 31st December
M1795537OCVirn
9.30am (UK) / 8.30pm (Australia)

I've heard that there's a new TV series about to start. It's set in the future, with some questionable plots, a noticeable lack of CGI and an increasingly inaccurate title. Against the odds it does have some great acting, some interesting relationships and some legendary smiles (with teeth). Why not watch it with us?

A good thing I logged in today - I was really not expecting to start until next week!

Might be just the two of us, Anne. I did warn Travisina the Aussies may well have their minds on other things, especially stuff in bottles, on New Years' Eve, but she told me to do it anyway.

Ah! I wasn't sure if we were going ahead but glad we are. I'm feeling so blah from the loss of Chris and Stephen and everyone else. Champers alone may not cut it.

PS. "...smiles with teeth". Thanks goodness! Smiles would not be nice without the dentures in. Grin

Good morning / evening!
I'm joining you today for this new retro-future sci fi series.
I too am feeling rather blah. Hugs all round.

Diane and I are currently working on the Horizon obituary for Stephen. So far it's running to several volumes, because he had such a full and interesting life and career. She keeps finding more things - at this rate, it will never be finished...

Obsidian, this may amuse you: I was trying to remember whether Tyce-con was 2020 or 2021 (everything that happened during the Covid years is a bit of a blur). Of course, all the forum chat was on the previous website, but I hit on the idea of checking the T-shirt you gave me! Sure enough, Tyce-con 2020. Thanks!

Glad you'll be joining us for the new show Travisina.

Tyce and I have had a brief discussion about Tyce-Con II and we're currently looking at March.

I hope everyone had a good holiday/break. It was all systems GO here.

Hello all, my computer took forever to start up today. Sitting here with a cup of coffee. Blake is just about to leave the dome.

If we don't include the tannoy announcements:

First word spoken: "Roj"
Last word spoken: "Avon"

It's just so random - I always set it for 2 mins, usually it's fine, but sometimes...

What the tannoy has to say is very interesting.

Message from Pilot53 - he sends best wishes and Happy New Year to all - he's been ill, and still on antibiotics (third lot) so isn't 100% and is apologising for missing rewatches. If you have time, PM him - I'm sure he'd appreciate the support.

I do love this opening - fraught with suspicion and unease. Cameras. Tannoys. Drugged citizens mooching around.

Not nearly long enough! But a very nice week doing nothing - although I've done quite a bit of writing on my B7 TNG story.

B7 TNG? Presuming a continuation, not a Trek crossover?
There was an excellent B7/STOS crossover, back in the day. I think it was called 'Strangers Among Us' - or might have been 'Port in a Storm'.

If 'Blake' is the episode that really makes Blakes 7, this one runs it a close second. When I came back to Blakes 7 as an adult, borrowing the old videos from Cambridge publlic library, this was what hooked me again.

Just heard from Tyce. She regrets she can't join us today. I imagine she's already on the fizzy stuff. I'm still on tea. Grin

I'll have to look that up! No, this is set 20-odd years post-Gauda Prime, involving, among other people, the sons of the Blake clone. It's big and baggy and I will probably never finish it, but it's fun to write.

Even though it stands out as very different from the rest of the series (no Avon! no Liberator!), it's a fantastic piece of dystopian SF, and sets up Blake's background brilliantly. Arguably, you could start the series with 'Space Fall', but we need this to set up Blake, the Federation and why his fight matters so much.
