 UK Rewatch - D2 Power Shower (Tuesday, Og-tober 6th)

The episode: Derek Two – Power (Carry On Space Rent-A-Tribe) The date: Tuesday, October 6th, 2026 The time: 7.45pm UK time A reminder of Season Derek drinking game: Here’s the number of sips/swigs per each of these: Avon is knocked unconscious 1 A scientist dies (per scientist) 5 A member of the main cast wears the same costume as last week 2 (per costume) There’s the sequence (or part of the sequence) of Scorpio landing / taking off at Xenon Base 3 Vila drinks something red (per scene) 10 Tarrant falls in love 5 Soolin shoots someone (per person) 5 Slave says “sorry” (each mention) 1 Each mention of “Sleer” 2 Avon laughs manically and/or smiles inappropriately 5 There’s a downbeat ending in sharp contrast to the jangly end theme 10 The final shot of the episode includes Paul Darrow 3 A member of the main cast is killed or stunned (per cast member) 1 bottle of wine / 1 can of beer Back to the episode, in which a certain blonde lady gunslinger disappears for the opening 45 minutes. Where could she be? A big clue is that I’ve found a long, lost document that reveals the original working title of this episode was “Power Shower”, but after the directive that Season Derek episodes all needed to be a single word (to fit on the graphics), the second half of that title was lost and discarded and only found by me on a scrap of paper found in the underground room under Xenon Base. Therefore, we can confirm the theory in the Maximum Power book that a certain blonde lady gunslinger spends those 45 minutes having a lengthy, hot, steamy, sexy shower involving plenty of soap and… (STEADY!). Anyway, back to other events in this episode – Avon keeps on getting knocked unconscious (perhaps sustaining brain damage) and Vila contemplates a life living on nuts and berries, while there’s a somewhat subversive Battle Of The Sexes going on, as we learn never to judge a book by its cover. Episode in a word: Moobs. Character to cheer: Gunn Sar is wonderfully played by Dicken Ashworth and behind all the bluster and those Moobs, he turns out to be a great, big softie, who loves his wife and does needlework. Character to boo: On the other hand, Pella turns out to be a thoroughly nasty piece of work who kills own her friend. Is Soolin looking lovely this week: See above (BTW the answer is yes!). Recognisable Face: Juliet Hammond-Hill (Pella) also turned up in an episode of “Only Fools And Horses” a couple of years later in 1983, in which she played an attractive art collector. The character is almost exactly the same as Pella in that we’re supposed to be taken in by her beauty, only for her to turn out to be up to no good. Best exchange: GUNN SAR: “What's the tally of challenges?” CATO: “Twenty-five dead and one missing, sir.” GUNN SAR: “Oh, come on, Cato. Don't quibble. Marquin fell backwards off the cliff.” CATO: “Yes, sir.” GUNN SAR: “So he's dead. Like, you can't say someone's missing as such. Not when they've taken a dive into a bottomless gorge.” CATO: “No sir.” GUNN SAR: “So, it's twenty-six dead.” CATO: “The council ruled it was twenty-five, sir, and one missing.” GUNN SAR: [to Avon] “Twenty-five men lie dead who tried to stand against me. And one, if he's not still falling, is no more than a greasy spot on the rocks, right?” AVON: “Impressive.” GUNN SAR: “You killed two men.” AVON: “If I'd known we were keeping score, I would have brought more ammunition.” Blake's 7 will return in... “Carry On Trooper Orac.” Edited by trevor travis on 05-10-2026 18:25 Vote Og.

“You did it, Avon. Your finger was on the trigger.” — Pella. There's so many pleasing little similarities - Avon and Blake/Cato facing the same ways, Avon's outfit (which he wasn't meant to wear in the last half of the season), Cato's furs and Blake's sleeveless jacket, the little rectangles behind them (probably the same set piece, given they're the same size and in an 8 x 13 grid), plus Avon's shock at what happens. Add to that the fact that Avon never says anything to confirm he fired intentionally. It could be that he is so shocked that he doesn't notice anything going on until he's surrounded by troopers and it is too late. All he can do is stand guard over Blake and meet death head on. |

It’s 19:45 Earth Standard Time, and here is the news from Earth Dome One. I am your in-studio reporter, Lee R. Pantsonfire. Our top story tonight, Federation patrols continue to search for the crew of Blake’s so-called Liberator, who have somehow vanished from the man made planet Terminal, though it's possible they were killed, as the artificial planet suffered a series of massive internal tremors. Also missing is the recently deposed former President of the Terran Federation, now declared a non-person by the new regime, so no more about her… if she ever existed. Federation patrols arriving at the remains of Terminal failed to find any bodies. They did detect a wanderer class planet hopper at extreme range, and followed to investigate. Said planet hopper touched down briefly on a planet inhabited mostly by primitives, but soon took off again. At first, scanners only detected one female humanoid life form aboard, then a male, then several, then the ship returned to the planet, only to be lost to Federation scanners. The pursuit ships have returned to their base for maintenance on the scanners, but not before investigating said planet. The patrol found no trace of the ship, but did find a woman named Nina, tearfully declaring how she would ‘lead the people from this place,’ but no means of transportation was apparent, and her ‘people’ were apparently a small group of male primitives. This reporter is reminded of a story from about two years ago, when a Federation patrol found a sad, delusional woman named Meegat who insisted one ‘Lord Avon’ had ‘delivered’ her people, leaving her behind, with what she insisted were the rest of her people, even though the Federation patrol found no one other than her and another group of primitive rock people. History truly does repeat, especially, it appears, in the case of one Kerr Avon. Stay tuned for our 20:00 movie, “I Was A Teenage Caveman,” followed by 'Psycho,' with a special extended shower scene. . . Cockatoo? What Cockatoo? I don't see a Cockatoo! |
