Talking about bluster... Apparently it was a terrible day filming, weather-wise, and across the country. Nasty. They were in Yorkshire. What did they expect? I'd agree, except that the storm caused disruptions across the country and 19 died in a yacht race with 15 yachts sunk and 24 abandoned. I think I'd have abandoned everything for a few days. When was this? It doesn't sound like any recent weather around here. 14 August 1979. When they started filming the outdoor scenes for this episode. PS. And when I was probably getting slightly hysterical about getting my Honours thesis typed. ![]() That would make sense. And I can remember typing things - trying to work out how many corrections were allowable before you had to start all over again. The blessings of computers! |

Hello everyone - sorry I'm late. This is one of my favourite episodes - I'm not a huge Vila fan, but he needed this - he saves a civilisation, gets the girl (at least temporarily), defeats the villain, gets much needed parts for the Liberator, gets and apology from Tarrant and impresses Avon - and he's still not happy! Well, it's a bit like Paul Darrow's story about a man who goes to see a shrink because he's miserable and the shrink tells him to go see Grok the clown to cheer him up. And the man says " I AM Grock the clown". Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

The costumes are all a bit muted this week (not counting Bayban). Well, the inhabitants of this place look to be wanting to turn on, tune in, drop out. Return to Nature etc, so the drab gear seems suitable. But that particular wishy-washy green is most unattractive on anyone. |

Speaking of wanting boots, I still object to them only making glow-in-the-dark wellies in sizes suitable for toddlers. .

Going back to the storm, because of it, Cally lost a lot of her best scenes, which upset Jan dreadfully. Vere promised her a close-up to make her happy.

Was it the episode when she kissed Avon? Evidently, there were more comedic scenes featuring Cally, but those scenes couldn't be shot because of the high winds. Lots of good lines in that, even if a few were pinched from other people. But in that great way of British humour. Perhaps Chris Boucher ought to have written more comedy.

He clearly knows what he's doing but rarely gets a chance to show off his abilities because the others are always one-upping him. Most of the writers only use him for comic relief, so they don't bother giving him much that shows his skills. (Also, it would b a bit boring if all 52 eps had something that they needed him to open , I suppose). "You're not sulking, I hope?"

One does have to ask, though, why the self-repairing Liberator needed crystals to repair the weapons systems. For Scorpio I understand it, but not Libby.

Deep cover would be Vila's preferred state. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

There are a couple of other things, but it's a very strong episode with excellent guest actors. Bayban is a wonderful creation and I love Sherm as the idiot side-kick. And simply seeing Valentine Dyall is brilliant every time. Don't philosophise at me you electronic moron.

So what are we all doing for the rest of today? Bedtime for Tyce, obviously. it's a lovely summery day here. Think I'll go and wander round the garden a bit. Have a great week, everyone.

What gets me is trying to differentiate them when it comes to designing necklaces because they're all very similar in colour. Fluorescing pink crystals might have been nice for a change.
