A chance to re-evaluate? B7 Afterlife - click here to go to Big Finish Tony Attwood’s 1984 novel, which explores what happens after the dramatic end of cult TV series Blake’s 7, will get an audiobook release in October 2025. Afterlife has long been out of print but will soon be available once more in audiobook format. This new reading is performed by Alistair Lock, who regular Big Finish Blake’s 7 listeners will know as the voice of Orac and Zen. Blake's 7: Afterlife has a running time of seven hours and fifty minutes, and is now available to pre-order. The audiobook will come packaged with a PDF download of the original 2,000-word glossary for the novel. Producer Peter Anghelides said: “When we released the audiobook of Paul Darrow’s prequel novel Avon: A Terrible Aspect, we knew we wanted to do the same with Tony Attwood’s Afterlife, because it’s the other original novel from the time of the TV series that bookends the whole of Blake’s 7. “The book was first published by Target Books in 1984 – appropriately enough, a year that’s long associated in literature with a dystopian world ruled over by a dictatorial leader. Four decades later, we are revisiting that world of a faceless bureaucracy cruelly directed by an uncaring supreme commander. “Following directly on from the explosive TV finale, Afterlife reveals not only the consequences for our heroes from Scorpio, but also what happened to the character most significantly absent from that story – Servalan herself. Now fans can hear these startling events brilliantly read by the familiar voice of Alistair Lock in this brand-new reading.” This audiobook contains adult material and may not be suitable for younger listeners. Perhaps if it does really well, Attwood might finally write the "State of MIND" sequel? |

This must be the first time we've seen the S4 logo on a Big Finish production, I think? For some reason they've positioned Terry Nation's signature so that instead of running at an angle in top left, it's now horizontal and right inside the logo. It just looks wrong to me!![]() |

Blimey, Big Finish are now really scraping the bottom of the barrel. I'll pass - especially after the way they treated customers over the special editions of the Robert Shearman books. That company has sadly sold its soul. It used to be We Love Stories. Now it's We Love Money.
Vote Og.

Blakes 7 finished on Gauda Prime. Any continuation featuring Scorpio or Liberator crew is nothing more than a terrible (and unnecessary) fever dream. That's all I'll say on the subject.
Edited by BlueyH on 18-06-2025 04:11 I look exactly as Avon reasoned I would.

For me any continuation robs the ending of 'Blake' of it's tragedy and power. It's heart-breaking but it's IMO the best ending to a TV series ever. Indeed, it finished on Gauda Prime. Well,, there was a time when Afterlife was all we had after the series was cancelled. But that time is passed and there are far better stories out there now. . . Cockatoo? What Cockatoo? I don't see a Cockatoo! |

FYI - my Review of BF's Afterlife audio is here https://www.blakes7online.com/article...cle_id=261 Cheers M Boss. I think you're being kind in your review, especially given the massive liberty that Attwood took with your favourite character. I'd rather have all my teeth extracted than buy this and it shows Big Finish are now truly scraping the bottom of the barrel and only putting out material for profit, not matter how lousy the source material. Vote Og.

I don't understand why they're bothering doing anything with this story. The Avon prequel has Paul Darrow's authorship in its favour but what does this have? Rather than cover old (and unpopular) ground, it would be much better if they came up with original B7 stories. If they want to work with old material, why not flesh out Pip & Jane's Death Squad script? Or give us a slightly tongue-in-cheek Man of Iron? |

Many thanks, TT. I do try to find something nice to say when write a review. In this case, I wasn't reviewing the story itself, but the BF audio. I hope I made my opinion of the story clear, and yes, I remain INCENSED at Attwood's treatment of Servalan. "You're not sulking, I hope?"

For those of you that actually want to read the book it can be found here: https://archive.org/details/blakes-7-...ollection/ Not sure how legitimate this is, but I'm sure the moderators will know! |
